The General is For Sale!

Good news: I've sold the farm. Bad news: The General isn't going with me.

The General is my 12", variable speed lathe (for all the new people on this ng who've never heard of me!). It's 2 years old, has a 38" bed, 1" x 8 tpi spindle, 2 banjos, 1 curved banjo extension and face plate.

"Hi" to all my old friends here. I read the ng constantly, just don't post.

Where is it?

Sorry, totally forgot most of you don't know where I live. I'm in the northeastern corner of PA.

I'm not giving up turning. How could I ever give up something so much fun? I'm moving a bit south, still in PA, and I'll be closer to a lot more turners. Being more centralized to my kids and grandkids figured in the decision also. : )

I'll always be around to read this group. Now that I'm getting the hang of having a computer, html and servers, I just may start posting more often again.

Hi Leo,

I'm planning on moving near Bill Grumbine, close to Allentown PA. I gave all my chickens away to good homes (I interviewed the people first!) and just want to get where there are more turners. There are only 2 within 50 miles and I just need all the inspiration I can get.

Thanks for asking.

Oh, more good news; The Wood Turning Center in Phila. is selling my "CLTL" shirts and my coffee scoops. Mrs. LaCoff opened a gift shop at the museum to sell smaller, unusual turnings. Most of the pieces inside are waaaay out of my ability but I'm honored just to be inside the building! There's a picture of the scoops on my website.

Whew... was worried there for a minute.

I'm curious why you wouldn't move the lathe? What are you going to replace it with? Just bein' nosey.

Perhaps, Ruth would like to trade her General for my Craftsman monotube. Straight up. Being the good guy that I am, I will spring for the truck rental. My truck has no brakes and I don't think a trip across the state would be a whole lot of fun. Thrilling, yes, fun, NO! :-)

Well, Bill, I'll have to give that some thought! Owen was right, I did express regrets. I turned on that monotube for 10 years and a number of turnings on my website were done on that little baby. I'd love to have it back...... along with a variable speed just for company.

As to why I'm not taking The General with me, it's a tad heavy (extra moving costs), I'd like to get an electric speed control plus a larger swing. It's great for my reproduction spindle work but not the best for bowls. If I could find a "SUGAR grandDADDY", I'd get a Stubby! : )

I gave Owen credit for remembering my regret of selling the old Sears monotube, it was Leo. Sorry, Leo!

Unfortunately, no, Leo. The lathe is sitting unused in the shop with it's

2hp, 3 phase motor and VFC sitting idle. Cobwebs gather and no lathe sings! *SIGH*
