Trend Airshield Pro - a short review

Well I have had one of these since April, and not seen any real comments on them.

Battery, is good or better than its word of 8 Hours, with an audible warning of say an hour that battery is low, but just because the warning stops, and the unit still functions doesn't mean the battery is all better again, its a case of saving power as its about to die, so stop warning provide air ( nice concept)

Takes a bit of adjusting for fit, and those with glasses, take a bit of manoeuvring to get it on, and off.

The motor is at the back of the unit but the noise from it is acceptable to the ear, but please remove hearing aids if you wear them, that could make it deafening

I have had a couple of bugs with the one I purchased

The front head band has a foam wrapping which fell off almost as soon as it was out the box, better double sided tape fixed that

The head covering is press studded to the face shield, but uses plastic press studs. In my case as I was removing the covering one of the studs completely detached, I believe this was down to the stress induced y the material between studs being stretchy

Speaking to the manufacturer about the issues, resulted in FREE replacements arriving next morning in the post, so hats off to them on that. And they will be looking at improvements.

They are also looking at an external charger for those that want that backup supply.

The only issue I have with the unit is weight, and I will stress that this is due to a neck injury I incurred over 25 years ago. As the battery is above the head , it adds weight. When turning it is unlikely that the user will keep their body and head vertical , which causes the weight to be forward of vertical putting strain on the back of the neck. Maybe for me I need a counterbalance lower down. But in the meantime, a simpler solution is a coffee break every hour

John,

You don't mention effectiveness.

I have one of the previous models, and I am THOUROUGHLY pleased with it.

Item: Because it blows ambient air over the face shield, any fogging due to breath condensation disappears almost immediately.

Item: Because it creates a zone of positive air pressure around my snoot, it doesn't have to fit my face tightly. It's real blessing on a hot day, not to have a mask pressing on my face.

Item: It works. I didn't use it for a couple of days because I forgot to charge the battery. I used my old face shield. I had a lot of coughing and sneezing after those sessions of turning. A friend of mine burned up a tool while working in the shop with me. I didn't smell the burn smell until I took off the Trend sheild.

Item: I have had two pieces of wood try to hit me in the face while I wore the Trend shield. Never made a mark on me.

No affiliation, etc, etc, etc.

Just want to get the word out that I like it and I think it's a good product.

I avoided that as , its not easy to determine :) But I have noticed, especially as I suffer from Asthma, that with the mask on my breathing is calmed. Though you can smell cellulose if you are using it - ( Have suggested the idea of a pre-carbon filter to reduce fumes- not sure how practical or effective it would be)

Something I did forget to mention in my last post was an idea of my wife, and that was to place a small cotton glover over the filter, it does not appear to effect the filters efficiency, but will stop some of the larger particles getting to the filter and clogging it, as it is expensive to replace. And there is an issue with the filter. The material is attached to the coupling using a cable tie, which is ineffective, so DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, unless your holding the filter fabric and dragging towards the coupling. Its something they are looking into and I suggested something like sharks teeth
