An electrical problem began my withdrawl from compulsive/impulsive turning. No power - no lathe - no turning.
Traced the problem back to one leg of a 220 breaker. Couldn't figure out how one leg of a breaker could get fried - without tripping first. Turns out the electrical contractor that ran the 220 line from my main breaker box in the shop - over to the Machine Room - was - an idiot.
Though there was only 30A 220V to the shop, he put in a 40A 220V breaker in that panel to make the run to the panel in the Machine Room. That was stupid. Breaking some plastic off the back of the 40A breaker when he "installed it" - and having that little piece of plastic get in the way of the breaker fully seating - could've burned my phreakin' shop to the ground!
The Electrical Sleuthing took my attention off the lathe - and allowed me to see just how cluttered and useless the Rest of The Shop had become - and how deep the curlies had gotten on the Machine Room floor. Acouple of days of sweeping and dust collectoring, putting stuff away - and getting rid of stuff I should've trashed a year or more ago got me a) a table saw I could actually use b) a sliding compound miter station I could actually use c) two benches I could actually use d) a router table I could actually use e) a drill press table I could actually use f) a floor that'll make it easier to find things that drop to it g) wood leaning against things booby traps - gone h) the table saw arbor nut wrench that's been missing for months just in time to start mentoring a Flat Work Novice building a solid wood linen cabinet to replace an IKEAesque version - which will have some turned door puils - eventually.
