wood drying

I was given a couple of peices of Myrtle and they were covered in wax and they are not completely dried out yet which I found out when i started to turn the wood.... I was wondering will they still dry out all covered in wax and the peice i started to turn would painting it with plastic paint be good enough to seal it while it dries completely out? The peices were sawn blocks of about 9" x 9" x 2".

The piece you are working should be turned to either the final form and thinckness and then put into a paper bag to dry (about 3 weeks) or rough turned and bagged - you can paint it, but Myrtle is pretty stable wood and should not crack if just bagged without the paint.

The other pieces are fine and will continue to dry - you might want to go ahead and turn those to the final form if the above works out for you..
