Woodturning idea for golfer

My attorney has more time on his hands, probably because he overcharges his clients like me, so he's taken up golf. I'd like to give him a Christmas gift that's golf-related - any suggestions? Maybe imbedding shark teeth in a bowl?

Turn a bunch of exotic wood tees- cocobolo, purpleheart, etc. Then turn an oversized golf ball, put a flat on it, add holes to hold the tees.

Or just a bowl full of tees? I'd be tempted to make them from very green branchwood- let 'em warp, twist, and deform.

Hi, If the shark teeth bowl isn't a friendly gag gift, I'd advise against giving it to someone whom you depend upon for their best advice. ;)

Not much to do with turning, but my golfer friends like golf ball bottle stoppers (quick & easy to make, ball above the cork) for giving to their friends.

I wonder about the overcharges. I hope that you were free to choose your attorney and that you discussed charges and expections before employing him/her. I have no legal knowledge, but I think lawyers are officers of the court, and if your's didn't truly perform or charge as agreed upon can't you make a complaint? No charge for this advice, and it's worth just that. :) Arch

You could always turn some wheels, then make a model "Ambulance" for him to chase around in his office, and work on his technique.

Yes, but you usually don't need a doctor, clergyman, or policeman because some other jerk decides to get one. Nor do I see them advertising on the back of busses trying to convince illegal immigrants that industrial injuries can be a successful career path. DW -- [Oops, I better sit down now and relax ;o) ]

Good point David, but as Yogi Berra said, "if you don't have one, that's why you need one. ;) Arch

I like the truth of the one that says a single lawyer in a town will starve, two will prosper.

Some of us get a tad off topic it seems. I suggest in answer to your question that you turn a practice putting hole that he can use on the carpet in his office or anywhere he chooses. It is a simple low profile disk with a cup size hole in the center. The top has a very slight slope and is smooth while the bottom is a series of ridges that will "grip" the carpet when a ball rolls up the smooth top side to the hole. It can be made with any 3/4inch lumber but looks best when made from somthing like cherry. Have fun turning and giving. GCS
