A dead rat and a string to swing it...

. Had one clear day (yesterday), got a good portion of the new wheel base-coated outdoors. Last night my son helped me base coat the fiddly bits, and this morning I base coated the drive wheel.

Tomorrow I'll put it together, Monday a friend who does faux finishing is coming over to do something "interesting" with the contrast color. On Tuesday I'm going to apply some gold leaf, Wednesday is sealing, after that it'll be a wheel and I'll start spinning on it.

I'm forcing myself to be patient :D

Eh, just some little bits of it. There are fancy finials on the wheel posts - I'll put a dab of gold leaf on the buttons at the tops of those. I'm also planning to gild wee bands on the wheel posts, the wheel spokes, the mother's bench and the legs. If my patience holds out I'm thinking about gilding a pinstripe around each side of the wheel rim, as well.

The stickum is what'll be time-consuming, so I may have to spend more than one day on the gilding.

I also haven't decided what, if anything, to do to the flyer. It is currently still nekkid, while the rest of the wheel is flat black (shortly to be dressed up with purple and gilt). I still have a fair bit of black milk paint, I should probably dilute a spoonful to make a thin wash and use that to get some color onto the flyer, though I probably won't faux it.

The painting is done. Today I'll start the "just barely" sanding - I discovered yesterday that milkpaint sands to a glass-smooth finish with 600-grit paper, but I need more! Tomorrow I'll start gilding, then a finish coat and I'll finally be able to spin on her :D

Now you are going to provide a picture of this glorious machine when you are finished aren't you? It just isn't fair to tease us all with discussion of a purple and gold wheel and not let us see it!
