WOW. My jaw literally dropped when the photo came up. That is gorgeous, Wooly. And you're going to tell us you finished it in, what, 2 days? :) Who is the lucky recipient?
Thanks for sharing!

Truly gorgeous! Lucky recipient who gets that, and I hope she appreciates all the work that went into it. How about some yarn details? Was this your own handspun? :>D

- No, I needed 10 days to knit that thing. I would have finished it in 9 but I lost a day when I discovered a big error 20 rounds back in the 576-stitch section and had to rip...
- No, this isn't handspun. It is Elann's house brand Baby Silk, which is 80/20 alpaca/silk blend. It does tend to bleed quite a bit - the bathwater for the shawl was quite yucky even after 3 rinses. I finally gave up and called it good enough.
- Pattern: Elizabeth's basic Pi with her lace patterns for same. Sidewise applied garter-stitch border, though you wouldn't know it to look. I couldn't bring myself to spend two hours creeping around with the yardstick and a box of pins in order to pin out every single one of those 576 stitches. Especially not when my mother-in-law was "supervising"!
- The woman to whom I'm giving the shawl later this week is experiencing chronic heart failure and was recently placed on the transplant list. Because she's ambulatory she's not very high on the list, but we have our fingers crossed nonetheless that some family will make a very difficult decision during a very difficult time and our friend will be blessed with a new heart as a result.
