Nah. It's around midnight here in the continental US, and this group has had a decent amount of activity today.

I think Mirjam might be having some issues with posts showing up very slowly. I experience this problem occassionally and it makes it look like there is little activity in the group.

It's early evening here in NZ but that's early evening of the day that it's early morning for you - if that makes any sense. :-)

I work out of my home, and I tend to keep odd hours and do crazy things like take naps mid morning or in the afternoon so I can work when it's quietest around here.

Congrats on finishing....I bet it is gorgeous....the colors sound yummy. As for the woman in the waiting room I would have told her the truth.....it's not very respectful for someone to take credit for your work.

LOL no I have been working on my baby surprise sweater....and what a bitch it has been.....have ripped it out 6 times but will no give up!!!! Oh the co-worker I made a baby wrap for finally sent me pictures of the baby wearing the sweater and hat I made.....I will get them up on my blog after work.....other than that sitting here drinking coffee and catching up on the newsgroups

Congratulations on finishing your work, Mirjam! I'm sure you will find many more things to keep your hands busy, as you always do. :o)

As for the woman teaching people to knit a moebious. I don't understand why she couldn't have just taught it without having to claim that she "invented" it. So you learn something and teach it to others... teachers in school certainly don't claim that they invented what they teach, be it artwork or any other subject... so why do some yarnworkers feel they have to have invented something to be able to teach it to others? All she really needed to say was "It is something that I learned myself and thought it was so pretty that I wanted to teach it to others!"

Like I said in a previous post to Mirjam... I don't have a problem with someone teaching something they have learned, otherwise it would just stay with one person and never be passed on for others to enjoy... but there is no need for someone to claim that they invented it. Simply to say "I learned this myself and thought it was so nice that I wanted to teach it to others" is good enough.

For instance... there are two sisters I know who paid a LOT of money to take an art (painting) course at a local college. In turn they are teaching the techniques now, themselves for a fraction of what they paid for their lessons. They are teaching the information that they learned, and not charging an arm and a leg like the college course does. They also have the supplies needed for students to buy *after* the second lesson, if the student feels it is something they want to continue to learn further... rather than having to buy all the supplies at the beginning of the course and then realizing a couple of weeks into it that it really isn't something they don't think they will be happy with like the college course does. I think it's a wonderful way to pass on their knowledge to others, and they are making it easier on people who can't afford to spend a lot of money. In fact they charge by the lesson (once a week), rather than the entire course... so if you don't show up one week for whatever reason, you simply don't pay for that missed lesson. Someday, when I get more important things behind me and I have a bit of extra money to part with each week, I plan on taking lessons from them. :o)

That is my favourite (I write poetry, and will eventually be taking painting lessons (see another post I just entered), so it is very appropriate for me.) and I sometimes put it in my signature line, when I remember to do so. ;o)

I don't know where it originates from, but I originally saw it quite a while ago in an advertising packet I got that contained motivational posters for employees, but it just came back to mind recently. A brief web search indicates the author is unknown.

I must admit that on my blog I haven't given credit for all the help you gave me when I learned how to make a moebius but that was because I didn't think you would want your name bandied about all across the web. In a class setting it would have been not only polite but the honest thing to have done.

By the way have you managed to finish your red sweater yet?

Ya know, there's a world of difference between not giving the name of the person who taught you something word-of-mouth style and trying to claim that it was an original idea.

What pretty colour combinations Mirjam.....I'm sure the mobius is beautiful. I haven't tried making one out of cotton yet. I saw one made from a lace weight mohair in a lace pattern that had me drooling! That woman that took credit for your teaching has a lot of nerve! Sounds like she has a low self esteem problem and just wants to make herself *feel* more important and clever than she really is....at your expense.....sad. Marie and the cats
