Any suggestions for Red Heart grande craft yarn

Gee I wish I could get cross-stitch kits to follow me as I love doing them and right now with the wrists being bad it's something that I will be doing lots of. Sorry couldn't help with any ideas with the super chunky but it was a good price.

You could do each section with a different stitch pattern, and if you're shy some yarn, you could stretch it out with white or yellow. Do strips the right length and then stitch them together when you're done with all.

Barring that, there's always a nice scrunchy shower or bedside rug using the fur (Astrakhan) stitch+ or the loop stitch++. Those are fun to do and the results really feel nice to the feet. You might have to buy more yarn, but something tells me that won't necessarily hurt your feelings any. :)

I haven't used the Grande (in fact, I've only ever used one chunky yarn in my life) and I'm a little curious how it'll work up in crochet. I need to make some rugs myself for the kids' rooms and I'm thinking about using Grande myself to do it. If you do a rug, you'll have to let me know how it goes for you.

• Astrakhan stitch/fur stitch direction, shamelessly taken from Encyclopedia of Crochet (the clearest written instruction by far on how to do this stitch): The front loop of the dc in row 2 which is not used becomes the back loop that is used when the fabric is turned in row 3. Chain a multiple of 1 stitch. Row 1: Turn.Ch 2. Dc across. Row 2: Turn. Ch 1. *Sl st in back loop of dc, ch 7, push ch loop to back of work (right side)* across, ending with sl st. Row 3: Turn. Ch 2. Dc in back loop of previous dc across row. Repeat rows 2 and 3. For thicker fur, sub a shorter stitch for the dc, such as hdc. For thinner fur, sub a taller stitch for the dc, such as a tr. Threnody's note: for a rug, skip the furring on row 3 and just sc across. Only fur the right side of your work. This is also a relatively easy stitch to do in the round, but you have to push the 7 ch loops out of your way a lot. This can be difficult and cause hand cramping after a while if you're not careful. Working 2 or 3 colors in a spiral pattern is very tricky, but the end result is spectacular and you can take comfort in the fact that these rugs last forever and you'll never have to do it again. :)

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. It is a different yarn, one that I have not even seen in the stores before.

I like the idea of a rug. Thanks, and it is really soft, almost feels "oily" as I was trying to do a chain and some DC's. That is just the words that popped into my head as it slipped thru my fingers. Of course, it isn't oily or dirty, just feels that way. It works up so thick that a rug just might be a good thing, I will try the pattern.

If it doesn't work out, another lapghan for the nursing home!

Friend of mine used to make small blankets for animal shelters out of the stuff, since it's washable and dryable. She would come and buy out everything Hobby Lobby had once or twice a month. Drove me crazy (since I had to order, unpack, price, and shelve the stuff), but it was worth it. The blankets turned out nicely, too.
