Are you a sock yarn FREAK?

Yes, I am familiar with the agony undergone so that these shoes could be worn, and I was joking, of course. Sorry I upset your tummy.

Speaking of sock yarn, I ran across this site yesterday:

Has anyone ever ordered from them? I'm not familiar enough with these brands of yarn to know whether these are good prices are not. They are having a sale on Regia right now but, again, not sure how much those normally cost to know whether it's a good deal or not! There certainly are some beautiful yarns on there though!LauraJ

No, their prices leave a lot to be desired. Patternworks as Regia for $7 not on sale. I do think the silk/cashmere yarn would make yummy socks though. DA

Thanks for the input! Their shipping charges were low so I was hoping their yarn prices would be too. Not that I need any more sock yarn right now so the fact that their prices aren't so great will help me resist!

Yes, but the Regia on the Simply Socks site is in 100 gram balls. The $7 yarn is likely 50 gr balls, so the sale price of $9 is not too bad. BUT, I did buy a 100 gr ball of Plymouth Sockotta yarn for $7.99 U.S from Shuttles,Spindles & Skeins when I was in Boulder this summer. I just finished a pair of socks with it and loved the yarn. It's cotton, wool & nylon. Shelagh

Further to the pricing on this site. I just stumbled across their Crystal Palace Kid Merino. Their price is $6.10 for a 25 gr ball. I bought it this summer at a small boutique yarn store in Fort Collins called "My Sister Knits" and the price there was $5.20 a ball. So, no, I don't think the Simply Socks site prices are all that great. You can do better elsewhere. And, I would not knit socks out of this yarn since it is very fine - a laceweight in fact. I would think you'd have to double it. I'm planning on a shawl out of mine. Just my 2 cents. ;>)

Thanks, Shelagh! Like I mentioned before, I'm not familiar with much of the yarn on that site so it is great to get "reviews" from others.

Thanks!

Laura I have made many pairs of socks for Otto from Jawoll. I love their yarns and also like that the have a spool of nylon reenforcement thin yarn to add when you knit the heel and the toe, to make them stronger. They also have cotton sock yarns as well and they are also very nice to knit with. I do not know about the other brands of sock yarn they carry.

Good to know! I was looking at some of their darker variegated yarns for a pair of socks for my father. I noticed they had the nylon thread which was part of what interested me in them.

Thanks for the recommendation!
