Bernat Bali

I came across a pattern for a beach cover-up. It is one of those retro patterns. It calls for "Bernat Bali" with a "D" crochet hook. Bernat doesn't have this on their website. I assume it is a type of thicker thread or a sport cotton yarn. Does anyone have any suggestions of another yarn to use. Has anyone ever made a beach cover-up and if you did, what type of yarn did you use? What would hold up the best?

I would email Bernat but they only give a snail and I hoped that maybe someone could help me here. Thanks in advance.

The few references I found to this yarn seem to point to the stuff being a cotton/nylon blend - sensible for a cover-up that needs to be able to dry fast. So I'd say use any cotton/synthetic blend with little/no stretch that'll make gauge specified int he pattern.

Even wiseneedle.com doesn't know this yarn, which is surprising.

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

Bali is a discontinued yarn. It is sport weight, 220 yards per ball, 67% cotton and 33% nylon.

Either of these would work.

I figured that it may be discontinued. I will definately look at those yarns and see what I like. Thanks, Diane

I have never been to that site, Wooly. I found it very interesting. Thanks for mentioning it.

I know you didn't ask for URLs to patterns, but I found some anyway... you can get ideas for the type of yarn to use from the other patterns. There are some URLs just for beach items, and some that have a LOT of different patterns (where there *could* be some beach patterns hidden). ;o)

Thanks Gem,

I have bookmarked them. I am going to go yarn shopping next week and try to look for a suitable substitution for Bali. Then I can get to work!
