Oh, you're evil (and I like that in a person )!!!

I bought 3; caramel cream, granite, and marble. Going with muted colors to make up for the "louder" ones I bought the last time you posted about a killer deal at Elann.

One can never have too many pair of handknit socks...contrary to what some may think :-)

At risk of being labeled (yet again) a heretic, I think it may in fact be possible to have too many pairs of handknit socks, or at least more pairs than is reasonably necessary.

I had to vacate a drawer - smallish, just 18"x24", previously home to some workout clothing that had seen better days - so I'd have somewhere to put the handknit socks that wouldn't fit in the sock drawer.

Dare I admit to having 37 pairs clean? And five pairs in the wash. And a pair waiting for me to darn in the ends. And the second sock on needles for another pair....

Wait, I lie. Two pairs are cranked, so technically not handknit.

I do rotate my socks on a FIFO scheme - clean socks go to the back of the drawer(s) and I pull from the front. Theoretically I'm wearing each pair every six weeks or so.

Where'd I leave my millipede?

Neener neener. None of the colors I'd buy - the bright ones, of course.

Wooly Who decided a long time ago that handknit socks don't have to match her top and sometimes don't have to match each other!

I know I don't have as many pairs as Wooly, but I do agree with you. I only wear my own handknit socks anymore. I need to clean out my sock drawer to make room for more new ones. I'm on the 2nd sock of another pair - I always have socks on needles - they're a great portable project.

How many wearings do your socks last?

Lets assume that you live ten years after you stop knitting socks. So you need socks knitted and ready to go for ~3700 days. If you get on average, less than ~100 wearings per pair of socks, then by my calculation, you need to knit some more socks!

Now, I know that it will be a good while before you stop knitting, but like other savings for retirement, why put this off? Start knitting for your retirement now!

Oh, and remember, when you are older, you skin will be more tender - so use really good yarn!

That was in the last announcement. I bought some really lovely stuff then

Socks are supposed to match your top??? Um...I'm in serious trouble, then, as I don't own a single pair of black socks, and most of the t-shirts I wear - yeah, I'm a work-at-home, jeans-and-t-shirt gal - are black. Hel, I wear "army boots" with shorts, and my socks never match anything. It's more fun that way :-)

Aaron - I love you (giggle)! I will definitely get busy and make more socks - I've been remiss in my daily knitting of socks - but hey - I'm already retired....
