free recycling from within the group

Hey guys all this talk of free recycling, gives me an Idea.

Some years ago, a friend of us, told us about an old loom she had sitting in her garage. She brought it with her when she came from Germany to Canada. She had bought it from an old factory that had gone out of busines. The loom is made of beech wood, it is countremarch loom with 8 shafts, and I think that there is room for four more schafts. It has a fly shuttle and an automatic take up, and release system. We think that the loom was made at the end of the 1800-hundreds. Her husband wanted to clean it up and burn it as fire wood. He found it was just in the way. The long and short of it is that it ended up in our house. Otto put it back together, and got a gear that was missing for it from the junk department at Capital Iron in Victoria. Once he had it all together, I made a warp for him and he put the warp on. I left at that point since he approached putting the warp on the loom, in a very irritating unorthodox way. I brought him a box of odds and ends of woolen rug yarns, and he just made that shuttle fly. That rug has now been on the floor in the hallway for many years. He made the kids tea towels, and I think someone in this group got the tail end of that woven piece as a knitting bag. The loom was taken down, because we needed the space. Two years later we put it back together again, this time I tried my luck. we added four more shafts and I did my first multi harness weaving. Again tea towles. Again the loom was taken down, this time because the kids came for Christmas and we needed the room. I have a beautifull 12 shaft loom myself and I can't work two looms at the same time. weaving on one takes up more than enough time.

This loom needs a good new home, were it will be used as a loom and not, as Otto suggested as a chair, because the wood is so nice to make a chair out of, also not as firewood. Anyone who would want this loom needs to come and get it, or pay for the shipping. The loom itself is free.....as in Free recycle. There is a little metal plate on the side of this loom and it say: "Andreas Kohman Turn-U Sportgerate Wagenbau Bamberg" It is 60" wide, overhead beater, fly shuttle, automatic take up while you are weaving. shafts, with room for 12.

Any takers.

Does it come with directions on how to put it together? This sounds really interesting, and fun!!!

No Bart, there were no directions with this loom. You have to know looms and the weaving process in order to get it put together. Right now it is in bits and pieces in our basement. Remember as well that it is more than

60 inches square. You need a lot of space for this loom
