Happy knitting moment

last winter (March, I think) I knitted a Wonderful Wallaby sweater for my (now almost 5 yo) niece who likes "made things." She is the one who regularly asks for something "made" (not store bought) and when I knit she sits and watches and asks what it is and who it is for. Even when it's not for her, she loves to watch. While I was working on it and Jess would visit she'd ask who it was for and I would say "Gee, I don't know." She'd put her hands in the pocket or whatever and exclaim "hey, that's for a little kid!" It's red with multi colored speckles, made of Wool-Ease because it's on an ACTIVE child with a mother (my sister) who doesn't much care for hand washing woolens.

I finally got it on her yesterday at the family Thanksgiving at my brother's house. Someone said it was nice how well the sweater fit Jess (we all have long arms, so to find a sweater that covers all the way to the wrist is like Christmas)... and one of my brothers said "Yeah, Amanda had to add about that much [1-1.5"] more than what the pattern said to the sleeve to get it the right length." His wife looked at him "Amanda made that? I thought someone got that at Kohl's. Wow."

And then that SIL asked me to make some legwarmers for HER neice who is

5 and in ballet... so we went to Michael's and got some nice soft pink yarn just for that. I'm gonna try to have them in the mail this week for her... but no gaurantees. Mostly because I'm having trouble finding a pattern for legs that little.

Like I needed an excuse to knit. bwa ha ha!

Great, Amanda! isn't it nice when people really appreciate, (and even admire!!!!) what we have done!?!?!

It is too often you hear,...well, she knits ALWAYS, it's just easy for her...

I made an autumn scarf(I have showed it here) very colorful, used multicolored yarn, and single colored, which picked up the tones from multicolores. It was NOT a difficult scarf to make, but my collegues was thrilled by the colores, and I was quite content myself.

Three weeks later, one of my collegues, who is NOT interested in craft (she IS music, and a fantastic singer ;-), burst out:

-Have you really SEEN Aud's scarf?? I call it ART! If anything is art, THIS is!

I was so happy, just to be SEEN for what you do, not only the ordinary "..it' easy for her.."-thing... (..or: "they have some very cheap ones at the senter! Why do you bother?")

Go on make the legwarmers, Amanda! Enjoy, and be proud of yourself!

Good luck!

... and little Jess is certainly a comming crafter!

Hi Amanada,

I agree with Aud, make the legwarmers they shouldn't be too difficult, mostly straight knitting. It's great when family recognize that it's handmade by one of them, and not store bought. Didn't happen much in mine, but that's why I stopped making them gifts. I bet Jess was surprised when she found out it was for her?

Hugs,

Nora
