Help me! Stitches too tight!

I'm knitting a simple (yeah right...) scarf, it's the first thing I've madeand I'm finding that my stitches are really tight on the needles. Theactual knitting is coming out more or less fine, but it's such a struggle toget the stitches to slide on the needle, and to push the needle through thework that it's really hurting my hands. This happens whatever size of yarnand needle I use.Can anyone help me?Charlie.

Well, he's a 16 year old Welsh lad who wants to look cool, I'd say it's not cultural!

I live in Wales, so unfortunatly it's not free!
