The second sock for my DH. I am using Lion brand fisherman wool and size 6 dp needles. I am using the broken garter rib from "Sensational Knitted Socks" This is the match to the sock that turned out much larger than my gauge swatch. I plan on partially felting them to size when done. I had taken a break from the above socks to make a pair of House Socks for my mom. I used a pattern from "One Skein Wonders" and Mauch Chunky yarn in apple (antique rose color). I was very happy with how they turned out. They were my first finished pair! Marilyn

The first of a pair in Opal Magic for me. These days the only socks I wear are ones I knitted, and no, I don't think you can have too many pairs LOL.

LOL I am working on a pair of socks made with Opal Feeling...have about 5 inches done. Looks like a pattern on the back of the label but I don't read German ;-)

I am working on hats & mittens for the homeless in the area. A pair of pink socks that my Ava requested, and I still have two crochet afghans I started, I have been delaying them for ever and I don't know why.

Hugs & God bless, Dennis & Gail

I got a great gift from my 6x6 square exchange Feb. partner on another newsgroup:

100g ball of Tofutsies yarn! Interesting sock yarn (Beautiful colours!), made in China, Sold by SWTC, made from: Superwash wool, soy silk, cotton AND Chitin, which is made from shrimps and crab shells!

don't think I can get it here in Norway yet,so this was quite an experience for me! The yarn was thin and leightweighted, and very good knit! And to my big surprise: I had used less than a half ball when the pair was ready! (I think I normally use 100g +/- for a pair, so I was a bit careful to make them not too big..to be sure to finish ONE pair! LOL)

But I was happy to get two pairs from that 100g ball!

I tried a bit, but found out that plain knit was nicer than lace pattern to this yarn, both because of the colour shift, AND because the shine/gloss of the yarn was much nicer in plain stockinette. Here they are:

They're gorgeous! I have a ball of this in blues waiting for me. I was wondering what size needles to use, it is quite fine. What size did you use, Aud?

I'm working on Sock Two of 2 different pairs. One is Apple Laine yarns Blue Bayou - has a lot of gold in it - wool/silk/mohair/nylon. I did the first sock leg (the foot is plain) in a gullwing pattern that I adapted from Barbara Walker.

The other pair is Bernat Sox Crazy Hot - crayon rainbow colors. I'm making these for a friend who's allergic to wool (these are acrylic and nylon, and the yarn is nice and soft.) The foot is plain, the leg is 2x2 rib. The friend has large feet so the foot was very long and now the leg is very long!

Re - making sure you can finish socks - that's why when I have a single ball (like Tofutsie) I do 2 socks at once, one from the centerpull and one from the outside. I do one toe, then the other, then one foot, then the other, etc.

Well the endless knitting on the second sock for my hubby's Xmas gift (that would be last Xmas) which is totally boring; the second sock in an Opal handpaint using a slip stitch pattern from one of Barbara Walkers's book for me ...And not counting a mosaic patterned sock for me that I just noticed an awful oopsie in and that I really need to rip out and start over with as well as one sock in koigu that is finished however I have totally forgotten what size needles I knit it on and suppose I need to frog it also and start all over again.

Not socks but a farose seaman's scarf in jaggerspun wool+silk which is going OK and will go better if the new lace needles ever get delivered and also a simple lace scarf for my daughter out of the most annoying yarn in the history of yarn (OK so maybe that is an overstatement) which I knit on 10 1/2's (yuck) -- specifically the end borders and I just hate how they look and hating even more the idea of trying to rip out this incredibly expensive mohairy plus metallic yarn and starting the borders again. Yeah I really need to rip out the border and find a less dense lace pattern as the scarf is all giant holes (purse stitch from Walker) ...

Thank you, Alison! The yarn/socks feels very pleasant on the foot, my daughter also said so! The yarn label says needles US2, that is 2,75mm. I knit a bit loose, so I used needle 2mm(US0) on the ribbing and 2,5mm (US1) on the rest. Aud ;-)

Oh, then you have lot to do... :-)

That is a good way! I normally use my letter weight, knitting toe up, and stop ribbing when I have a bit more than half the weight left;-)

I am working on a pair of socks done on 2 circular needles at the same time. I am not liking it. I prefer DPNs. My intention is to replace all my store-bought socks with hand-knits, and just to keep on knitting.

I have tried that too, Katherine, and wondered if I should force me to knit like that until I had "got it in my fingers". But at the same time, the DPNs are our traditional way, I like it, why should I then change?LOL! AUD ;-)

Thanks Aud. I think a size US2 would be too big also - I use that on some merino wools. I think my favorite size is 1.5 but I have the 0s and 1s as well!

Good for YOU! I only wear my own socks now, except in my workboots, then I slip a pair of sockettes over my socks. (I kept a few storebought of those just for that!) Hugs, Noreen

I'm working on 2 pair right now.

One is the second sock in a pair in crochet using a couple balls of Regia 6 ply that I found in the stash.

I just cast on for the first sock in a knit pair using self-patterning Lana Grossa Meilenweit Magico fingering weight in shades of blue.

After these are done, I'm going to do a pair of "house elf" socks for a friend who's a Harry Potter fan to wear to the movie premier.
