a *sock* thread

Started a pair of thuja socks from knitty.com for DH, in a 100 % merino wool. This stuff is SOOOO lovely to work with that when I tried knitting a few stitches of DH acrylic I cringed! Can't afford to get this fussy lol

I've got a self-striping, toe-up, Magic Loop, two-at-a-time (now if that isn't a mouthful!) going. Unfortunately, I have been getting distracted now that I've turned the heel and am just working on the stockinette ankle. I plan to start widening for the calf soon, though, and will keep going until I run out of yarn. Hopefully before summer arrives!

Late to the thread, but what the heck

Last night I started a pair using Midsummer's Night "Socks that Rock" yarn from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, using the "Canal du Midi" pattern from _Knitting On the Road_ by Nancy Bush. The yarns is a superwash merino that is just incredible. The band says size1 needles, but I like my socks bulletproof so I'm following the pattern and using size 0 2-mm needles. I've only done about 2" on the top, but it's turning out great, and this yarn rivals Shepherd Sock, at least IMNSHO

I ended up with one red sock and one green sock that way (bottom right corner of my knitting page

Working on a pair of self-patterning Joseph's-socks-of-many-colors (Purple, red, orange, yellow, black and white. I don't love them, but they'll be warm and comfortable. Will post a picture when I finish them.)

Next up: two pairs of 2-circulars socks of Noro Silk Garden Lite.

I am working on a pair of 2 on 2 now. I will never do it again. This is my second attempt, and I really don't like it. I feel as though I am knitting with spiders. I have not gotten to the heels yet, but I think I may need copious amounts of scotch to get through them.

I did a pair of Silk Garden Lites before, and they came out fine. Maybe #3 needles? I rather like the rhythm of it, and I love having both sock bodies done when the first one is finished. I do afterthought heels, so I do them separately after I finish the toes, so they're pretty mindless too. But maybe you're the one who can't bear the thought of making a hole in the knitting...

Going to the LYS today to pick out the wool. THe hard part will be choosing only one colorway. Oh, the agony!

LOL I agree, Georgia. I am thinking that I may start to buy some solid yarns now, as I have more variegated than I need, and I am yearning for some solid colours. THe ones on two circs are solid, and that is probably the only reason I am finishing the things - well, that, plus the fact that I am too stubborn to give up. I have done the afterthought heel, and wasn't terribly impressed with that either. I am an old-fashioned girl, I guess - I like DPNs, and the slip1 k1 heel. I am not sure what that is called. I just did a pair with a short row, wrapped stitch heel, and don't like that. I just don't think that it will have the durability of "my" heel.

I was thinking that you could take the socks off the circs and put the stitches back onto dpns if you really aren't enjoying it.

I finished the pair of interminable ribbed socks - they look very nice, bright crayon colors, and are soft for a non-wool friend (acrylic and nylon, Bernat Sox). I did 2 repeats of baby cable rib at the top for a little change before binding off with the stretchy sewn bind-off. Now back to the second Gull Wing Sock - I'm almost at the heel, then I'll get to the more interesting part, the leg with the lace pattern.
