The "one at a time or several" thread

There was a "snide" comment made that those of us who have more than one going are "unfocused"... rather than multi-taskers... so my 'snide' remark back is: those who think they're "focused" have *tunnel-vision* LOL! rotflmao! Hugs, Noreen

I didn't even notice the "unfocused" comment... but it would have slipped by like water off a duck's back anyway, because.... I *am* unfocused, and openly admit it. Although I don't always like being this way (like when I am trying hard to finish something I have been working on ... a story, or poem, or whatever) it does keep things interesting not focusing on what will pop up next but just letting whatever will happen, happen.

I have read all the threads twice and didn't find any snide comments. I am one of those that has many projects going at the same time.

Could you point it out to me?

It's been deleted by the server, so the person (whom I'll decline to name) must've had second thoughts, and deleted it.

Like other responders, I missed the "unfocused" remark either. You really shouldn't let it annoy you so much that you feel the need to retaliate with a snide comment.

Well, Cher... I'm *of-course* multi-tasking, *focusing* on too many projects at once! I'm sketching some faroese style shawls, doing the math etc on working lace into the 'usual' places, center panel, and along top edge (well, down a few inches) and along bottom edge (above a few inches). My NYCO is woefully on ignore status. I've finished the socks that I couldn't seem to finish, and have two more pairs still OTN. and there's more, shall I go on? LOL, Hugs, Noreen

I think that a well organized, focused person needs a big main project or two, a "dumb" or two for when you just want to sit and knit but not think, and a travel project or two. I do not think that projects that are in suspension for redesign or reevaluation should count as WIP. I short, I do not think that any of us really need to admit to being disorganized or lacking focus.

If you feel like you are disorganized or lack focus, then look at some of pictures of some the studios of the great artists - most had many pictures in process at all times (a tradition for painters since oil paint took time to dry, and many paintings required several layers of paint.

If someone accuses you of having too many works in progress, just say, "I knit in the tradition of _______*!"

*Insert the name of your favorite oil painter.

I remember looking at a particularily pretty shawl you'd knitted once, it was round with zig zag type bottom edge to it, now that really was something.. I am glad you've got those socks out of the way, I get like that over things, that initially I think is gonna be lovely, then for some unknown reason, it becomes a chore and I hate doing it. Wonder what makes this happen, some other project coming along that makes the first seem boring is all I can presume, weird isn't it? Still you've got rid of it by doing it, and I expect they are quite lovely. I like doing socks, but prefer to use my own handspun yarn, you get lots of lovely colours like that..lol but then I'm a colour freak..

Do post some links to pics when you have time. Love drooling over other peoples beautiful handicrafts..

You know, I'm pretty sure I responded to the original post, but I don't see my post either. It wasn't the snide one. I still haven't figured out how this stuff works. I have deleted my response when I accidently posted it twice, but sometimes they mysteriously disappear.

Scratching my head.

Sometimes posts don't always make it to all newshosts or they don't stay on them for long. So they might have expired from the server and are not available a day or so later.

I make many projects , most my colleagues, both the craft oriented as well as a Art oriented, make either a few singular objects, or many objects at the same time. Some have studios that look like a sterile pharmacy , some have more `lively` or open piles workrooms. I woulfd never ever call any work they do Dumb , not even jokingly. A creative person , has to work in the methods he/she can work. Creating is the important thing , not the How or the how many.

As a Fiberatist i find this very strange and unneeded, We work in Fiber and fiber has it`s own needs and conditions, And It`s Own 30.000 years old traditions....I tottaly refuse to accept this old fashioned idea of yours. If a painter needs an excuse let him say:" i work in the tradition of Ages old fiberworkers"....

I often don't see the original messages, but catch the responses. Sometimes that is a good thing, other times not. :o)
