They knit WHAT?????

Saw this in a yarn store ad, and wished the blog "You Knit What?" was still in existence. I love the look of most Noro yarns, but this sweater design is unbelievably ugly..... no wonder there are derogatory remarks made about "your aunt's knitting"... enjoy (snark)!

And the worst thing about it, IMHO, is that the picture made me think the poor model's ARM was falling off as well! :-( Poor Barbie. . .

I always assume a pattern is bad news when it doesn't flatter a thin model. This one definitely doesn't. It looks like beautiful yarn though.

I never understood the sweater falling off the shoulder style. If it's warm enough for me to wear a sweater, I want my shoulder covered too :)

Presumably you're at some gala event where the heat's turned up and there's enough people to elevate the temperature further. ;)

Or live in California or Florida...

Ok were is the [V] says it's a V-neck sweater ;-)

the V was too deep so the model is pulling it off her shoulder to keep the photo "modest"

It looks to me like that sweater was made for someone twice her size but it wouldn't look much better even if it fit her.

Actually I kind of like it. *ducks* I do think the coloring is bad for the sweater, something not as noticable. It looks like a sweater that would be nice to put on during one of those lazy days. Though I could never understand the pulling the neckline of the shoulder thing.

I agree with you in that the sweater was so ill fitting they had to creatively pose the model to try and hide the errors. I've been the victim of bad patterns in the past until I learned to examine the photos of the finished items more closely. The V is not only too deep, it's too wide, and there doesn't seem to be any edging to keep it in place, so it looks like if she let go of the back her entire chest (what there is of it on that anorexic stick) would be exposed. Plus it's an ugly shapeless bag with sleeves that are too long, so she's wadded it up behind her back in order to try and make it look like it's got actual shaping. But, the arm you can still see has the hand totally covered! You wouldn't be able to do anything in that waste of yarn except stand around trying to keep from exposing your chest, quite a challenge when your hands are lost in the sleeves...

I think that pattern would be better served being turned into an afghan panel.

Hey (grinning) - one person's meat is another one's poison..... to each his/her own! I'm sure there will be some people who will knit that thing - but it won't be me.

It looks like a sweater that would be

understand the pulling the neckline of the shoulder thing.

Me either - I think you have to be pin-thin for something like that to work - and I am "fluffy". (smirk)

I think the off-one-shoulder thing can work on fluffy people--but there has to be drape in the fabric. That sweater is too bulky to be worn that way. I'm a person who easily gets overheated in cold weather (I think my metabolism kind of cranks up) so off-the-shoulder does appeal. Madelaine

But this is so typical of Noro patterns, I've seen very few I actually like and considering how expensive the yarn is! What can't quite understand is the yarn itself is such a feature so why not make the pattern simple to show this off. I ended up making my own design for the first Noro I bought because I couldn't find a suitable pattern and having just spent over $100 on yarn I wanted to like the finished garment. My LYS has been taking simple Patons patterns and knitting them up in Noro and they look fantastic.

I'm with you there. Complicated patterns look much better on solid or very muted variegations. I have a really nice Noro pattern book that has some very simple patterns - it's called "Simply Noro" and it's by Jane Ellison. There are 9 sweater designs and 5 accessory designs (pillow cover, afghan, bag, hat and scarf. Here's the description on the inside front page.... "Simply Noro are easy patterns using simple knitting stitches to create original unique garments."

One of the patterns I used was a hooded cardigan with a dropped shoulder. The original design called for toggle buttons, but I put in a zipper, and used Patons Up Country yarn which I bought at a great price because it's been discontinued. I haven't bought any Noro yarn yet, but will do when I find a design that just begs me to use it (smile).

I agree with all your criticisms of that pattern.

I don't think even that would help. In my opinion, the pattern is ugly and the color combination was unpleasant. The yarn would be better served being made into three other projects.
