How about Miss Silver?

For those of you who don't know who Miss Silver is..... she is an older detective in books written by Patricia Wentworth. The stories are based in Britain, and were written in the 40's (I believe). While solving cases she was always knitting something - usually smaller items for various nieces & nephews.

A knitting friend of mine living in the U.S. turned me on to these novels which are out of print. The only places I have been able to find the books are in places like Value Village or used book stores. I have actually found a lot of them at V V for around $1.99 each.

These books are a hoot to read and also give some insight into living conditions back then.

Hi Shelagh,

I'll have to look for that author as I don't remember reading any by her. Right now I'm reading "Needled to Death" by Maggie Sefton. You told us about her first one and I've been waiting for this one. Good so far.

I just finished it up last week. It's a fun mindless read (smile). She's still got plenty of fodder for more books. What's she gonna do with the ranch? Is she gonna move to Colorado? What's she gonna do with the guy? (snicker) Who will get murdered next?

Hi Nora, I was confused so I just checked her website - and here's the skinny on her books:

"Dying to Sell" is part of her "Real Estate Mysteries", and has a different heroine named Kate. "Needled to Death" is the second book in her "knitting mysteries" series. I didn't even realize she had the real estate mysteries, so thanks for clueing me in on that (grin).
