I need to knit! I have been a crafter for many years but crossstitch is a bit to cumbersome to take on the go. So I need something more mobile like knitting. My job has a lot of down time and I think knitting would be a great hobby. Could someone recommend a good how to and or how to get started book or website. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Coats & Clark has an interactive CD-ROM called Knitting made easy which is very helpful. You actually watch video clips of the stitches being done.

Scarves are easiest, of course, and it only gets more addictive from there. A book I find in my knitting bag most often is the Stitch and Bitch Guide -- it's a good read and the patterns are nifty and easy. You can get it on Amazon for about fifteen bucks. These ladies seem to be the Sum of All Stitching Knowledge, though -- welcome!

Thank you. I have read several things referring to the Stitch and Bitch. Didn't realize it was a book. Interesting title. Sounds like a winner.
It's an interesting book, and so is the sequel. The title is a phrase that has been around for at least fifty years - my mother's old sewing club called itself the Stitch and Bitch, and I doubt they were the first.
