Indeed as well as a good laugh. Do you think that the elderly lady was a kleptomaniac. It sounded to me that most of the stash was returned. The other frightening thing was, even though we buy all our stash, are we spending that kind of money as well....Better not let Otto read this story....

Libraries have always suffered from that. People feel that they have paid for those books as well. I know that in our reference library in Toronto, where I used to go on a daily basis for work, people would put a wet string in a book and take out pictures without having to rip the paper. The wet string would desolve the paper back into pulp. They then would slip the page in with their own working papers. It takes all kinds....

Theft is a never-ending problem for libraries. Now, it's the CDs and DVDs that people try to steal.

Not just libraries, it's everywhere. And the cost of all of the stuff stolen is paid for with higher prices for the rest of us.

Mirjam, I used to sew all my clothes when I was a young working mother. I made some of my children's clothing too. Now, the sewing machine in my house is used mainly for mending my husband's jeans or other items. I think I just got tired of sewing. I go to the thrift shops for my clothing since I live in a rural area and the biggest decision is which pair of shorts or jeans will I wear today. I knit my own socks, scarves, mittens and most of my gifts now are knitted or crocheted items. I have more shawls than I'll ever need, and will be making more! I love them. ;>)
I think it's great how you renew many of your clothing items with embroidery, or taking a jeans skirt you don't like anymore and making a bag out of it. If I can ever get to it, I have a bunch of pairs of jeans that I want to make into a quilt.
Keep stitching!

My (rip) MIL gave me a 'pattern' for a quilt made from old bluejeans... the pattern was so old it still called them dungarees! I made 4 of them, one for DH and I, one for Christy and Terri, one for Kelley and Pokey, and one for safekeeping. Hugs, Noreen

Good heavens, what next. Although come to think of it, I do see people sample grapes and bulk foods all the time.

Thank you Shelagh I still enjoy the sewing, [ i think it also gives me the feeling of providing for myself, among other things] . I am allergic to Synthetics thus have to amke my clothes of Natural stuff. I also enjoy the left overs for other purposes, and i have a problem with sizes of bought clothes....Thrift shops or second hand clothing shops are here as well , but i don`t feel right in them, [and most clothes there are Synthetic]. I don`t wear pants or shorts , i like skirts and shirts and dresses, Don`t know why , just know i like wearing them . { In winter i might wear Cotton pants under long skirts, eastern style] . I also sew Cushion covers , curtains etc,,, it just part of my Life ,,
Many years ago i made my daughter a Mainly Jeans Quilt with some other cottons for color ,, she still has it ... mirjam

I have a quilt I made from recycled jeans, too, and up until last week it lived on my bed...it now resides in my car for impromptu picnics at the park! I love it, and I like the 'wrong' side even better; faded more muted colours.
Are yours as heavy as mine? And I didn't even use a backing, just the denim.
