Howdy!Yes, this is stupid.  And invasive.  And maybe just wrong!     I testify that I'm roasting the pumpkin seeds which makes it food,do I get a 1/2 tax?  What if I promise to scrape out all the goodieand cook it up as food, do they waive the tax?  What if I send itto the elephants at the zoo, making it animal feed---is there atax rebate?    What's next?  The corn?  I used the whole corn on the cob in theshuck as a decoration-- tax that?   That dark, multi-color"Indian" corn-- waiver or tax? And what about those hay bales my neighbor has stacked in her yard--did anyone at the feed store ask her if these were for work or play? I heard the other day that pumpkins grown for carving are not so greatfor eating, nutrition-wise.  Go for the canned stuff.Glad the gov'ner can think or at least cave to people who can ; )TariaLouise

There are two kinds of pumpkins grown locally, "field pumpkins" and "sugar pumpkins". Field pumpkins are bigger and don't have as good a flavor, often they are used for animal feed. Sugar pumpkins have thinner skins and sweeter more flavorful flesh. Field pumpkins are usually the ones people choose for carving ecause they are bigger and sturdier than sugars. Field pumpkins are just as edible, just not as tasty as the other kind. When I buy a pumpkin that begger is going to get eaten regardless of what else I decide to do with it, be it a field pumpkin or a sugar pumpkin!. I like field pumpkins better than hubbard squash, or for that matter better than most other kinds of squash. Since they have some size and stand upright better than most other squash it is easy to get all fancy with pumpkins too.

It is not uncommon for states to tax food. We pay sales tax on food here in Virginia. The tax is not the same as on other goods, and varies with the end use. It gets WAY worse when they cross the Washington, D.C, line. Really.

I think I already related the story about the 70+ Republican Senator who tried on (and bought) a bustier and thong set in a store I worked at..

Though, you know, he did look fair decent in it, if you go for that sort of thing! ;)
