Hello again, rec.crafts.textiles.yarn on Usenet, it's Nadine here with:
I have just learned of a TERRIBLE group of yahoolighans who call themselves KnitFlame. It's a closed group, but I found the following reference to it while doing a search:
Knitflame is a social disease. There is absolutely no redeeming value to it. And you'd be even more horrified to find out some of the people who are on it. Some, I've been told, are on it for "self-preservation reasons, as they don't flame their own." Isn't that just a lovely club that you'd like to belong to?
Other searches show that these pariah's search knitblogs and slander the poor souls to pieces.
I just found this so disheartening that I wanted to share. Nadine
Hello, Nadine. Many in r.c.t.y have been the victims of KnitFlame. In my own opinion, That particular group spends a lot of its time antagonizing each other so, in a sense, they do reap what they sow. When they started the group it was anonymous, but as their own self-hatred festered and as the members got more poisonous about blogging they deteriorated to the point of direct linking blogs and flaming them. You can't go through life feeling disheartened about all the horrible people, there are just too many of them. I think the only thing to do is to let them live in the miserable world they created for themselves, and just ignore them. Nate
Welcome to RCTY as I don't remember seeing either of you until this week. You both have said some great things about our group. I don't look at any of the yahoo or for that matter other places that have craft groups. This group of people are like a family to me and I welcome you both to it.
I'll add my welcome(s) to Knit666 (umm the 666 makes me a *little* nervous. LOL) and Nathaniel.
The only other newsgroup besides rcty that I read daily is rec.food.recipes to see what goodies they are serving up each day. If the recipe is something quick, easy, and inexpensive to by ingredients for I save it for future. ;o)
Other than that, I stop in *occasionally* to the lyrics newsgroup, and even less frequently to other groups if I'm looking for something specific at the time... or just in the mood to peek. ;o)
However rcty to me is a nice visit with dear friends who care, share, laugh and cry with us all. So welcome to the best newsgroup around. :o)
That is a schocking story ,,, why would i want to read such material ,,,, News are at times bad enough ,,,,, in my knitting i want human touch ,,, mirjam O
LOL!!! Great analogy!!! I've actually known people that do this, they really will; they'll take something that is just God-awful stinky, like a pair of shoes or particularly foul smelling skin cream or cough syrup or whatever, and shove it in front of my nose and say "doesn't this smell AWFUL!" Well, yeah, so thanks for shoving it up my right nostril. :)
I have lurked there once in a while, but find the majority of the posters and posts to be quite juvenile, and it ends up that I can't be bothered sticking around. I have much better things to do with my time - like knitting (smile).
Hey Mirjam I've been making felted slippers for my daughter, her hubby, and her 3 kids. They are all done now and just need to be mailed. I'm also trying the Fibre Trends Felted Clogs pattern and after a couple of false starts I'm almost finished the first slipper. I wasn't counting the stitches properly and it just wasn't working out. I finally tried counting another way, and have concluded I must be doing it right now.
I'm almost finished sewing together a sweater for me for autumn. It has wonderful autumn colours, and is a pullover. When I'm done with it, I'll post a link to my photo album so you can see it.
I've started another sweater for me made from Patons UpCountry yarn, which has been discontinued. I REALLY wanted a sweater from it before it disappeared. I was able to buy the yarn on sale, which helped because it's a fairly expensive yarn. It's 100% wool, unspun, chunky weight, and VERY soft. I'll look like an ice-blue polar bear wearing it. (grin).
Next up on the needles - the Peacock Feathers shawl by Fiddlesticks.

When I was atknitting camp this summer in Colorado, I found a beautiful kid merino laceweight yarn - 28% kid mohair, 28% merino wool, 44% micro nylon. It'spurple, mauve and green, and will suit this pattern well. This will be mywinter project along with 2 or 3 other things.Always on the needles - a pair of socks. This time I'm beading the partfrom the cuff to the top of the heel flap. I'll post pictures of that too.The yarn and beads are really pretty in variegated blues and greens. That's my knitting report. ;>)
You all likely know this trick already but at a knitting class this week I found out that if you use serging thread in the heel, just knit it with your yarn, the sock will wear much better and longer.
I've found that any sock yarn with 25% nylon in it wears quite well. I've made myself so many pairs of socks, I think it'll take me a long time to wear them out (wry smile).
Also, there is a particular sock yarn (Jawoll, I think) that includes a spool of it inside each of their yarn skeins. Great stuff, that wooly nylon makes a big difference in the wear (and there's a LOT on that spool!)
