OK, I've found some info on general wool/needlecraft stores - here goes! As she's planning on visiting the islands I searched on Shetland and found >

is a blog from a woman called Anne, who lives in Ontario and visitedShetland this September. She gives a lot of information about the yarncompanies she was interested in, other blogs which could supply furtherinfo and where to obtain yarn over there. The same search for Orkneydrew a blank. The other best place for gathering information would be "The Scotsman" (our national newspaper) at >

your friend goes into that site and scrolls down to the bottom righthand side of the page she will find an entry for "Wool and NeedlecraftShops".Click on it and it'll bring the next screen which lists every wool/yarnshop in Scotland (there are 67 pages for that) together with a set of"fill in and ask" boxes on that page for the area wanted. Where it says "enter a service or business name" just fill in "Wool and Needlecraft Shops". Ignore the section showing "within 5 miles of this post code" (post code is equivalent to zip code) and go straight to the "town or city" box.

Enter into that box the town/area she will be visiting (e.g. Inverness, Shetland, Orkney, Aberdeen, Edinburgh etc) and it will supply the information she wants on all wool shops local to that place.

Please wish her a wonderful holiday from me! :-) PS If she needs any more info or I can be of help in any way do let me know.
