S.E.X. on vacation

Well, where better to have S.E.X. than on vacation??

I spent the last week in Montreal and insisted on going to at least one yarn shop while there. Unfortunately, the first one we tried to find was no longer at the address listed on a few different websites, and others weren't on the itinerary. Our last day there we had intended to go back into the old part of the city and walk around when my husband remembered that he had forgotten something in the room before we checked out. We went back to the hotel to see about retrieving this, and by the time this was resolved there really wasn't time to get into the old city again. It was then that we decided to find another yarn shop and headed in the direction of Mouline (there should be an acute accent over the e, to be proper). Well, we got to the address I had to find an empty shop, but there was a sign saying they had moved just a bit down the street.

Was I glad I found this place! And the damage I could have done to my credit rating if I hadn't shown any restraint We spent a nice long time talking with the owner, and while my husband was chatting I drifted off to better inspect the inventory. I saw lots of nice yarns that I haven't seen at any of my not-so-local yarn shops, and I really could have bought enough to need to send through another suitcase, but I ended up getting some Regia in one of Kaffe Fassett's new colorways and a hank of Sea Wool in a lovely Indian Summer colorway.

Nice going, Kim. What do you think you'll make with the Sea Wool? I'm making a shawl with Sea Silk, and the jury's still out on how I feel about this yarn.

I love Old Montreal, having been there a couple of times years ago. Once I met my sister there and we treated ourselves to a ride in one of the horse-drawn carriages, as well as lunch at a lovely restaurant in a very old building. We also found a great restaurant with an outdoor patio hidden away in what could have been a back lane. The afternoon we stopped there for a drink, there were a couple of young adults playing violins. It was a great way to spend a warm fall afternoon.

Well, Kim, you should have ler me know! Of course, I would have recommended Mouline, because it is a lovely store. And, now that they have moved into new premises, it is even nicer and less crowded than it used to be.

I have no clue. The color was just so pretty that I couldn't resist This is probably the first stash purchase I've made without a specific item in mind for it. I'm sure I'll find an appropriate use for it, though.

The owner of the shop showed me a swallowtail shawl made with Sea Silk, and it was lovely. I may have to break down and get myself some of that, too, eventually.

The first day we were there we walked from our hotel near McGill University down to the old city. Went through one of the museums there, then wandered around a bit more and found a place for lunch. We ended up going to the Science Center that day as well, then wandering around a bit more, finding the Silophone - a large former grain elevator that has equipment to bounce around sounds and return them to their originating locations

The rest of our days there were spent visiting various museums and doing general wandering around. One place we didn't go was La Ronde, the Six Flags park on Ile St. Helene, but we could see the roller coaster tracks from the park. Maybe next time

Dagnabbit!! I knew there was someone here I could have tried to meet, but my online playtime was severely limited in the week or so leading up to the trip, with trying to get everything done for work and my girls' school squared away before we left. I barely had enough time to check email. I do hope to make a return trip in a shorter interval than the last one; 14 years is too long :-)

You were in Canada! Yay! I knew there was something good in the air. ;-))

I've been gone a long time. This computer was driving me nuts and since that was the only thing it was doing I just gave up trying to have online fun.
