Hi All,

I went to the Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival on Thursday afternoon. So much to see and do, so little time! Next year, I think I will take to whole day to go.

I didn't get very much yarn. I got 2 skeins of Regia sock yarn for $4 ea and Mary Maxim. I also got 3 skeins of sock yarn from Red Bird knits: $4 for the smaller skeins (2) and $8 for one big skein. I got 4 skeins of chunky weight 100% wool from Headwaters yarn - $5 ea(they are based out of Acton, ON but get their yarn from Latvia). I also got a $12 skein of a funky laceweight yarn from them. It's black and glittery, perfect for a scarf.

Other knitting-related stuff: plastic purse handles for $1.99 (steal of the day - I got 4!), and 3 knitting mags for $22 (Vogue Fall 2004, the new Interweave Knitscene, and FC Easy Knitting Holiday 2005).

One interesting thing they had this year was the Kaffe Fassett inspired room - a little to bright for my taste. They also had a booth were they were selling his books, yarn kits, and some other Fassett stuff.

Something else that was interesting was the Viking sewing machine fliers. If you buy their top-of-the-line Designer SE sewing machine before Dec 31st, they will throw in a free computer! Mind you, the computer that they are giving away is not the greatest (my BF thinks its about a $400 PC, while the sewing machine runs about $7000). They must need sales really badly!

Everything else I got was quilting related, as the show mostly caters to the quilting crowd. I also noticed an increase in scrapbooking stuff, which is kinda weird considering that it IS a NEEDLEWORK festival (note to organizers: need more knitting booths!). I had a good time, as usual. Maybe next year I will take some classes!

Nadia, I think that an afternoon was probably enough! You made out like a bandit, girl. Good for you!

Hi

Glad you had a good time at the show. I have been at the show since Wednesday taking classes. I have been enjoying the classes but have to admit that I have been frustrated with the actual show. Like you lots of quilting and scrapbooking shops. I am also frustrated that there is only 4 cross-stitch stores with stuff. I have looked at the yarn shops but haven't seen much.

I haven't got too much this weekend other than the 2006 Knitting Calendar and then picked up a new lamp for cross-stitching.

Classes have been wonderful and have learned how to knit with beads as well as improve on knitting mittens, cable and fair isle. Now to see if I can work on getting some of my class projects completed as after taking 8 classes and still one class to attend I have only finished one project which was an inclass complete project. The completed project was a crystal beaded heart.

My thumb has been really bothering me but have been at least attending classes and having some fun. Now to see how the hand holders up as it's back to work Monday.

Time to get off the computer as this message has been very hard for me to type.

Take care Darlene

That is something I would really like, Darlene. Short classes, almost like workshops. Sounds great to me! Your poor hand! I hope that the surgery helps.

Hi

The classes were wonderful and it was great as the longest class I had was 7 hours and some were only 2 hours. After taking 9 courses I am now going to take a couple of days to try and get back to normal. I can't believe that I did as much as I did but am very happy that I got the pass that allowed me to take 24 hours of classes and different classes.

The thumb is pretty sore but now heading back to work tomorrow and now doing to send the next two days standing infront of a class being the instructor. Glad today was a short day and only had one class.

My sister and mom went to the show today and they were also disappointed that there weren't more cross-stitch and knitting booths to look at.

Maybe next year! ALthough, if they are having such success with classes, why would they bother with booths?

Oh Katherine - if this is the Creative Needlework Fair in Toronto (and I think it is)..... I was there not that long ago, and met up with Darlene. It is huge, and a lot of product gets sold in those booths. I agree they should have more knitting booths, I found they had way too much emphasis on quilting. I mean, how much fabric can you buy? (hee hee). I know, just as much as we might want to buy yarn or embroidery floss.

Hi Darlene,

That is a lot of classes! Were they mostly knitting? I think next year I will attempt to take at least one class. Even though the booths weren't great, at least you got to learn a lot!

Hi

I took two knitting classes, 1 was a round robin with 4 instructors and the other one was knitting mittens.

Both of these classes were a lot of fun and the most of the other classes were with cross-stitch instructors.
