More Yarnistry. . .

We had a pretty typical summer here, without any major heatwaves. Temps stayed right around average, mid-to-high 80s with the occasional 90s. Even had an autumn storm roll through a few weeks ago, bringing much-needed rain and snow (!) to the local mountains and Sierras. Now that it's October, though, we're coming out of a Santa Ana condition, typical for this time of year, and are getting our usual fall evening/nighttime temps. No matter how warm it gets during the day it always cools off nicely in the evenings this time of year.

On the knitting front, I'm progressing well on my holiday gifts. One sweater needs to be blocked and stitched together, another is on the needles, the bags just need to have the straps made and attached. I also have the obligatory socks in progress, as well as the usual list of UFOs, one of which will become an FO in a few days - yippee!!

Oooh, you said a BAD word... the "S" word (about the weather in the mountains). ;o)

We had a pretty nice summer, although it *could* have been a little hotter and I wouldn't have minded too much. We only had about four extremely hot and humid days where you barely had to move without ending up drenched in sweat. Those were the days I went in the pool three times in one day just to try to keep my body temperature down to something bearable. However, August didn't seem hot enough at all for summer and so summer seemed a lot shorter. Then the last 1 1/2 weeks in September summer returned with a vengence. We had all gotten used to it being slightly cooler, especially in the evenings for sleeping... but the temperature soared to the high 80's and stayed there the entire time, day and night. It wouldn't have been so bad if there had been a slight breeze, but there was nothing at all... and the grocery store had their air conditioning on high, so walking out of there was like walking into a sauna... it almost knocked you out.

Tuesday night the temperature dropped drastically... to the point that Matthew (who had gone to hang out with a friend) came back to grab his jacket to go walking. Then yesterday it was quite chilly. It *looks* lovely outside today (I haven't been yet, just opened the door to let Casper out) with clear blue skies and lots of sunshine. Hah... I just looked at the Yahoo weather for our area and the nearby city is supposed to only get to 55 F with showers.... they can keep it, I love my sunshine! ;o) Well, I just went outside (curiosity, you know) to throw Casper's favorite toy for him a few times, and it is really nice out there. The cement sidewalk blocks were a little cold on my bare feet (I hate wearing socks and shoes until it gets VERY cold), but the sun shining down on the wooden deck is really nice, and I could enjoy sitting out there for a bit with a sweatshirt and jeans on... no t-shirt, it's not *that* nice out, but it's certainly not what Yahoo says the nearby city is getting today. I just might make a cup of tea and go enjoy it on the deck in a couple of minutes. :o)

Our entire summer was HOT HOT HOT, in fact when we went up to Wisc. it felt COLD to us (80's-ish!) after spending 99.9% of the days in TN all summer being

hehehe Poor Don! I remember my Mom used to sleep with the window open throughout the winter, and my Dad would huddle under a few blankets trying to keep warm. ;o)

While I was in the nearby city yesterday for a doctor's appointment (I'm fine... just checking in with him), I popped around to the park with a loaf of cheap bread to feed the ducks and seagulls. I was shocked at how low the water was in the pond. The shore was back a good 10 feet, at least. :o/

Gem, MY mom always slept with a window open, all winter long, and still does.... and SHE, "bless her heart" (those in the know, know what *that* really means, VEG), never DID have hot flashes or night sweats during her 'change'.... Me, on the other hand, I've always been a 'freezy-butt', but with these drenching night sweats, that go on and on and on, I guess THIS winter WILL be an open window one... Don does have wool blankets AND even an electric blanket to keep himself warm.. I just feel GUILTY inthat his 'resistance' is lower (due to both Lymphoma AND moreso the treatment(s)), and I'm scared I'll make him sick! Hugs, Noreen
