Thanks, Chris!

Yep, you got it! :o) And you know what? I just *assumed* it was back and forth knitting and not on circulars.

Learning to crochete is on my To-Do list. That's interesting...combining the two. I'll try that when I'm able. Crocheting looks like it's going to be harder than knitting. Is it?

Thanks, Sarah!

It's not more difficult, it's different. Good things about it are that you only have one stitch on the hook, so if you drop it it's not quite so disastrous. (This is largely true, although I've just finished a square with a stitch pattern where you have 6 loops on the hook! Sometime!) Also you're not having to wrestle with 2 sticks. I like knitting and crochet for different things. Once you're comfortable with knitting give crochet a go: it's terribly trendy!! Love & higs Christine

Hi Charlton and Sarah C.

To both of you welcome to the group, now do come back and visit more often.

Pam, I agree with Christine, once you are used to knitting, then try crocheting. I find it took awhile getting used to, but now that's what I do all the time. Crocheting gives an entirely different look to almost everything. I put a single crochet border around the 6x6 squares that I receive for the comfortafghans, some of them are knit and some crocheted and it works out nice both ways.

Hugs,

Nora

It's the same that JCT gave you. Just depends on if you're using an even or odd number of stitches. Do k1, p1 on all rows if an odd number, do reverse (p1, k1) if an even number.

Sarah, welcome here ,,,, If you know how to crochet an edge you might enjoy one row of single crochet than in next row 3 single crochet in the air , 1 single crochet into 1st, 3 sc in the air , 1 sc into 2nd st,,,3 sc inthe air etc.. mirjam

Yes it would ,look nice but some people think it is less soft you mihjt start the scarf with several rows of seed stich , than keep

5 stich in seed stich , knit all till 5 last stiches which you will Seed again, turn scarf , 5 seed stiches , purl til 5 last stiches which you make in seed ,,,, work thus till end ,,, and finnish with some seed rows,,,, Since i knit mostly seamless in one pieces i like to knit seed or rice stches on edges of clothes,,,, mirjam ps if you make the scarf for a specail person ,, you might Seed his /her intial into the flat part of the scarf ,, mirjam

When i write have you ever sewn TRICOT i meant the fabric one sews T SHIRTS from ,,, have a close look at your T shirt ,,,, LOOK it is a KNIT fabric ,, hence the name [ from French ] Tricot ,, now tricot when cut will behave like any knit ,, it rolls ,, in sewing one can use this for decorative purposes ... [ or scold the day you started sewing it ]

Not so hard ,,, take the Sides of your knitted scarf andflatten it between your fingers ,, you will see a kind of edge that has a longer line and a knot ???? Slide you right side needle under that line and knit yourself , imagine that this line is a stich on the other side needle ,, go so till the end ,,,, you can make a corner , but let`s for now go the easy way ,, make this knitting first on the long sides than again on the short sides ... mirjam

LOL Yes I do, except while driving or walking around (I only need glasses for computer work, TV, and for reading). And if I get really silly sometimes and am doing two things at once (looking down to read small print on a paper and up to watch TV, or up to look at the computer... depending where I'm sitting at the moment) I may even have two pair of glasses balanced on top of each other... so then I have SIX eyes! ROTFL

Do you use the same kind of yarn you use for knitting?

I was wondering what you all do with all those 6 X 6's you trade around. You make afghans? Cool. Pam

I plan to make an afghan with my squares - am starting to lay them out to see how they look together and move them around to try different combinations. After that I think I will crochet around the edges and try to make them all really the same size - then sew them together. I will put the afghan in my "doll room" to keep my grandkids warm when they visit. (The doll room has a trundle bed which fits the two youngest - the teen stays in another bedroom which has books but no dolls)
