Jan 6 x 6 rec'd

I got my squares in the mail from Sue W. last week but forgot to post because I was getting ready for a big dog show this past weekend (if anyone wants to know about that, I'm REALLY willing to tell, but it's pretty OT).

Sue, I'll have yours out this week.

Beau the dog (My first conformation dog) went out in a weekend pretty much stacked against him--a woman brought out every dog she shows--and Beau beat all of them twice for Best of Breed (in UKC we show 4 times a weekend) and just barely missed on one other try (got 2nd in a class of

4 and the judge had trouble placing him that way). She thought Beau was just filler for her dogs to beat... and instead for a little while (I don't expect him to stay there), Beau is the #1 UKC Catahoula. One of his Breed wins went on to 2nd in the Herding Group, and the other was from a judge who'd given his 1/2 brother Best in Show years ago (I didn't know that until after the fact). The judge who gave him Group 2 had also given that same award a few years ago and also gave Beau BIS.

He's doing really well for a dog that "can't be shown" because he's got an obvious fault (he has no tail... or at least it's very short... can't hide that).

Well Beau is beautiful and well loved (you can see that) regardless of his short tail. Good for him (and you) that he did so well at the show! :o)

Amanda, THANKS! I'm very familiar with the UKC, as I registered my Abbey (deceased now) in both the AKC and the UKC. (She was considered 'pet' quality via the AKC, due to being one quarter inch too tall.) Abbey earned her Utility Dog stuff through both, AND was awarded Herding Expertise. (she was a Shetland Sheepdog aka Sheltie) Beau is to be congratulated, along with his 'mama'!!! Hugs, Noreen

Amanda, Thanks for sharing your and Beau's great news. I also enjoyed reading about your "adventures" with Beau. He seems like a wonderful dog!

Wow, Noreen. I only got Lucy to the Gad Novice level (would do everything but the Broad Jump). Beau is gonna be lucky to get his U-CD because he's more the "do my own thing" dog (which is why he loves backpacking so much--he's not stupid, he's just motivated by things that didn't motivate Lucy and vice versa). Basically, it's "I came and sat, what do you mean it wasn't RIGHT?" The lightbulb for front and finish came on the other night, so we'll see how he does with the jump, next. I would like to try the United Family Obedience title with him, too.
