How are our friends in the middle of the ice storm?

Dave? April? Linda? Katrina? Anyone else? I have been watching the weather and the weather seems awful bad in the mid-west. Everyone take care!! and STAY WARM!!

Nothing much but cold here. It started Friday morning. Sleet mostly and started to thaw a bit then we went to town before noon and on my way home was one flipped truck and a lady ina blanket on the side of the road. Help was therre.I fish tailed turning to get on the overpass to my house. Then hubby came home about 5ish and it was sleeting still and he drove 40 all the way home. He went to turn on our road and couldn't and slid a little. Nothing bad.

Today nothing but cold. I went to town this morning to pick up Jonathan and driving down the dirt road on the sleet sounded like heavy rain but I didn't slide. I saw 2 big wreckers headed for the state line 7 miles back behind me. No wrecks but very few people. Trucks going fast on the interstate like they can handle it. Wait till they hit the bad part between Groom and Amarillo texas. Last week they closed the road from Amarillo west to NM for

3-4 days.

Supposed to snow tomorrow. but we'll see.I'll just sit at the computer and SHOP!!

We've been getting dire warnings since Friday, but to look out my study window it doesn't *look* all that bad. Of course I haven't been out in it driving around, haven't had a reason. Maya had a birthday party scheduled for this afternoon, but I just talked to the mom and they've decided to reschedule it.

Just north of us in Oklahoma the news said a van full of people was involved in an ice accident and 7 people were killed :*( so I think even though things look okay, it's better to be safe than sorry and just stay at home today!

Everyone stay safe out there!

We're doing okay here. Trying to stay warm. We didnt lose power in our area but just to the north of us did. The storm in texas now will be here within the hour and the worst of it here at 5 or so. We'll see what the 2nd wave of this storm brings. DH isnt going to work tomorrow so I'll have help with the kids. :) Everyone stay warm and safe. Only get out if you have to! It's slick out there.

Lots of ice here, but no snow thank goodness. The pool froze over. Keeping water running through our pipes so they don't freeze. Hope everyone else is doing OK with this extreme weather.

Here in OK City we have 2.5 inches officially of SLEET intermixed with spurts of freezing rain. It is nasty out!! But we did not lose power, only couple small parts on north side of town, probably of wind blowing down trees.

When big wave came thru o Sunday, it was 22 out, thundering, lightening and pouring down a mix of freezing rain and sleet. Weird was the word for this storm.

Kenda saw o the news tonite about high water rescue there? How much rain did you get? Hope everyone is ok all thru the midwest, Shannon, Linda and up to northern NY.

Yep, everyone else in the country got ice, sleet, or snow over the weekend. Arkansas got rain. Rain, rain, and more rain. It started Friday evening, about 7:30 and rained off and on through Sunday. I think it was on the weather Saturday evening that for the month of Jan., we've had over 7" of rain. Umm....MOST of that was over the weekend! I was getting ready to start plans on an ark or something. Geesh! And it wasn't just this nice spring-like showers. Nope...it was buckets of rain, all at once.

DH went to the church on Saturday to meet with some other people to work on our Children's area renovations. At one point in time, the local fire dept. stopped by to ask if the church would be willing to open up to the public if anyone had to evacuate their home. As far as I know, no one had to stay at the church, but there's water water everywhere around here. Bridges are still flooded. As far as I know, no fatalities, but there have been some people who've had to be rescued. Of course, it's getting well below freezing every night this week, so all the excess water will be freezing.

Today, it's just COLD! But I'm not seeing icicles hanging off power lines or houses, so it doesn't seem to be that bad. Of course, I don't plan on venturing out today, either. LOL

I told my parents to stop sending the rain. Within the past month, every time they get snow (in the desert, and they get snow...go figure!)...every time they get snow, the storm moves towards Arkansas, and we get rain. So I told them they could stop sending the rain, and send the snow instead. LOL

See ya'll are getting walloped with ICE like eastern OK and up in MO.

Are ya'll ok? Do you have to drive to work in it? Be careful and take care!

So far we have been fairly lucky but I think that is changing tonight. It is nothing like what you guys have gotten (4 inches ... holly cow!) They are saying my area is getting the worst of it right now. I don't have to go in to work in the morning. I am working from home this week. Amanda is located closer to the coast so hopefully she won't get much sleet.

This is one weird storm. Hope our whole group stays warm and with power. That is the scariest part to me is the potential to loose electricity. Yikes

Warm wishes to everyone! AND lots of hot chocolate... *grin*

Yep...I'm closer to the coast so it's not that bad here. It's still above freezing where I'm at. The bad part is that to get to work I have to go North into the weather. For now, I'm hanging out at home to see if it lightens up any. It seems like there is a little ice on the elevated sections of the freeway (which is most of my commute..lol). They are closing some of the overpasses and entrance ramps now, not as bad as some of you have had it. I'm praying for safety of all our group. Between the rain, snow, and sleet, it seems we've all got something to deal with. Stay safe and warm everyone...

Amanda

Stay warm is right. It's frigid out there! Just give me my hot cup of coffee, warm slippers, and I'm fine. LOL

Thanks for asking Kemda. I made it through the week. All we had here was sleet. Two days of it. The roads were never really a problem, for me anyway. The crews were out as soon as it started and didn't stop cleaning for two days. It's melted a little, which has made the driveway slick, but the streets are dry. My poor car is filthy. What was red is now almost white from all the salt off the roads. I took a couple pics of it since I can't remember it ever being this dirty. I'll have to go to the carwash and rinse it off today since we're expecting

5"-6" of snow tonight and tomarrow. I don't worry too much because I know we have good road crews. Even in my little town here they get the side streets cleaned off quickly. Not as thoroughly as the main streets but at least they get plowed.

My truck is dirty too from a few trips to town also. no snow last night just rain about 9pm. This morning about 230,430 and 630 nothing yet. Then at 830 when I got up from my daughter hollerin', there was about 2". I talked to Dave on the phone during the 8:00am hour and actually did not make it out of bed till 10:30 cause i fell back to sleep. By then there was about 4" of snow on the ground now. And it is still snowing. no wind just falling snow in tiny flakes! Now off to do laundry and lunch for the crew!(DArrell, Jonathan, Zendalina, and my brother Mitch)...

They plow the side streets there Katrina?Jeesh I need to move here. As most people here believe, if Mother Nature brings it, she will remove it. the streets all week were absolutely awful from 4 inches of sleet last weekend.

We have not gotten any snow here yet from the 10 we have been threatened with all week (fret, fume, grumble!) but I guess the streets will finally be clear form the rain.

Because of the really awful roads and schools closed ALL week, there was LOTS of Stink at all city halls. So yesterday they changed the snow routes and as of today we have across the tri county metro area "Super Snow Routes!") All cities are to plow these streets and KEEP them clean before doing other streets. OTHER STrEETS?

So we shall see, and since the state went to private contractors about 5 years ago, the interstates even are terrible. Wonder where OUR tax dollars are going there? Never mind, I remembered what state I am in!

So have fun and if you are getting and out in the stuff, be careful!

OMGosh!... I just read this and rememebered I was in the kitchen and my son jumped up and said he saw flashing lights outside. Well unbelieveable until I saw it go north down our back road was a road grader. I couldn't believe it. they never come till a few days after a rain or something. So Dave... the dirt road is graded if you wanna come have king ranch chicken casserole with us!...ehehheheehh

cowchipper

Yeah, they do a great job of cleaning here. I got up and looked out and they've already plowed at least once overnight. Last wekend when it was sleeting they plowed twice in one evening and the next day the bigger truck came by and did a more thorough job. I was thinking yesterday that I need to talk to my cousin down there in OKC to see how he's faring. I'll add that to my list of things to do today. Stay safe everyone. I haven't been out yet so I'm not sure how much snow we got or even if it's done falling. Church was canceled though.
