Are all our Florida girls OK?

I heard Katrina, the hurricane not our well loved RCS Katrina, kicked up quite a fuss. We already know Tabby was spared, but I'm hoping to hear that everyone is OK!

Yep ok here. A lot of wind today but that's it so far. No rain yet. But we have had a lot of rain the past few days with a lot of thunderstorms.

I'm sitting up here in the corner waiting. You know how that is. It could or it may not. I don't have a good feeling about this. Hugs Irene

Looks like it's headed For Selena now. I saw on the news last night everyone in LA is evacuating. That could be real bad since they're below sea level. They also showed folks in AL & MS. They didn't seem to be as worked up about it. I guess they've been through enough of them now to know what to do. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in the path of one of these devastating storms. Hopefully the damage will be less than it was in FL. Be safe everyone down there!

Yes, it's heading our way now. I'm watching the weather like a hawk, needless to say. I live in a mobile home, so don't want to take any chances. You know how storms like mobile homes. LOL. Baton Rouge shouldn't get too, too much of it, but then it is stronger than Andrew was and Andrew caused a lot of problems around here, especially with the wind and power outages. I will probably either go to my mom's or stay with my husband at the hotel where he works to be safer.

We are in a better position than New Orleans. We are not quite as low as they are and we are more inland, so we should be okay. Keep your fingers crossed!

We'll be thinking of you. I'll email you my toll free number privately, on the off chance that you can't get an email out after the storm goes through but can via phone to let us know you are OK. My MIL's home is in Gulfport, right next to a bayou so I hope it will be OK. As far as I know she is at her condo in NC, so safe. Rick was a little boy when Camille went through Gulfport and they didn't evacuate. He still remembers hiding under a table. Unfortunately I've noticed that people that survive through something like Camille have a tendancy to believe that they can ride out any storm. Hopefully people won't leave it to chance and are now moving away from the LA, MS and AL coasts.

Selena, I thoughtof you right away yesterday when they started ordering evacuations and wondered what is there in BR. I also FONDLY - LOL! remember my experiences last year with the close call with Ivan!! With Katrina being bigger and for shore coming thar, I can not imagine how bad all the traffic and chaos there even where you are IS!!!

You and your family stay safe and know my thoughts are with you and them!!

Also, Irene, I hope you will be ok as we know the eastern fringes of the storm also causes many problems and the L panhandle is goingto take a good hit too.

The only good thing about it is that I know the back roads to take. It is like Ivan as far as traffic is concerned...takes hours to get anywhere.

Thank you Dave for your concern. So far it just rained a bit and pretty hard. Some thunder and some (not much) lightening. I think it will get worse as the night goes on. But right now all is well. Will keep everyone posted as the night goes and morning comes. Hugs Irene

Thanks for asking... I'm fine - we live in Fort Lauderdale so we got a little visit from Katrina on thursday afternoon... nobody expected much damage but it was surprising how much minor damage it actually did - a lot of broken trees and powerlines and signs and fences and stuff... we only got our electricity back on Sunday morning and our cable/internet at 8.30pm Sunday night. Our only casualties were the contents of the fridge/freezer... The LSS sent an email to customers saying they'd be closed Friday and open Saturday and they hoped we'd stocked up on candles etc so we could scrap our way through the weekend - only I was far too hot to even think about it! I lay on the couch with a succession of books, catching the breeze from the living room windows and trying to think cool thoughts.
