Ugly Storm in Manitoba

Shelagh, Glad to hear that you are ok. Snowbound in November just seem incredible to me. Should you be looking into a dog sled to get around? Carol in TN

Just a note to say hi to my RCTY friends from snowy, blowy Manitoba.

It has been snowing and blowing since Monday around 5 p.m. I think the snow has stopped but the wind is just awful, and is supposed to continue into Wednesday. Ugh. We've had more snow in 24hrs than we normally get for the whole month of November!

I've been housebound all day, since I have a small car with very little clearance for getting through snow drifts. DH came home from work (nights), staggered into bed, and left again to drive all night and back. I hate it when he's working in weather like this. I hope the snowblower works in the morning when he gets home.

Normally I'd be knitting and watching TV, but haven't felt like it. I'm trying to get rid of a cough, so have been a slug all day long, napping instead of being awake and alive. I have the woodstove going, so that's nice and cheerful - warm and snug too.

On a lighter note, I'm almost finished knitting my heavy pale blue sweater from Patons Up Country yarn, and am on the second sock of a pair of worsted weight camo sox for my granddaughter for Xmas.

If anyone else is caught in a winter storm now - I wish you warmth and safety!

I saw some of your storm on the weather channel, Shelagh. I think that we are scheduled for one tonight.

Yuck, Shelagh, SNOW! (ewwwww) The ONLY snow I like is Christmas Eve, and it can melt by Christmas morning! Noreen who thinks white SAND is better! LOL

Hi Shelagh,

Not nice to have that much snow this early in the season. It's summer here in upstate NY today, but going to snow tomorrow. I hope you get feeling better.

Hugs,

Nora

Out here the snow is staying politely in the mountains - since the ski runs basically were closed all year last year there is great excitement about this early snow. Some of the businesses up there were in real trouble and are hoping for a good season this year. I don't ski, so I am staying in the lowlands! We did get frost even here next to Puget Sound Monday night - usually we are really pretty warm considering the latitude and this is early for us.

Noreen, I still remember my only winter in Nashville. We had snow and it was a big deal for the local kids. The principal said not to touch it until reaching home - want to bet how many obeyed that instruction? Since I was from Minnesota, I was less than impressed at the couple of inches that fell. (This was during WWII - my dad was in grad school.)

Hi, Judy! Yes, we DO get the occasional fourletterword (s n o w) here in TN... and it IS still a big deal, as most 'born-here's' have no clue how to drive in the stuff. They'll close school's when there's one quarter INCH! Being from WI, AND knowing full well how to drive in the stuff, Don and I laugh and stay home, avoiding THEIR accidents. (quarter INCH? heck, they didn't close schools in WI till we got a FULL FOOT, lol!) White SAND is my reference to the five wonderful winters we spent in FL.... Hugs, Noreen

I just heard from DD#2 who is in Evanston, Illinois. She is so excited that it is snowing there. Her DBF must have been happy about it also because he called at 11am to tell her that it was snowing. As Nora said, we are supposed to get snow beginning tonight. I hope it doesn't last too long or stick.

ACK! Snow! No thank you... we had a bit of thunder last night, and a LOT of major lightning and rain though. Today I let the dogs out and thought it felt a bit nippy, so I put a t-shirt under my sweatshirt thinking that would help to keep me warm enough under my blanketcloth/fleece jacket when I would go for a short walk later. Well later came and I stepped outside the fence to go to my van to check the mail at the Post Office (before going for my walk) and I was no longer sheltered from the house once I hit that laneway. The winds were VERY strong and it was bitterly cold.... right through my jacket, sweatshirt and t-shirt. Needless to say, I didn't bother with my walk... I just went to the Post Office and right back home where it is warm inside.

However, while I was out I heard a couple of people talking about snow in this area... apparently it's between a village about 30 miles to the north-east of us and our town. I know there has been talk from weathermen in the area that we could get snow tomorrow and for three days afterward. Brrrr... but then, maybe it will help to take some of the bitterly coldness out of the air.

Stay warm and cozy, Shelagh... and anyone else who gets hit by it.

Have to disagree... *slightly*! I like snow on Christmas Eve, and then it can go away again on Boxing Day... that gives me my White Christmas for sure! ;o)

Shoveling your foot sounds like something that I would have done while I was living in northern Indiana. I lived where we received lake effect snow so I am used to the snow. Moved to TN almost 8 years ago and love that it is not so cold. We do get some snow (probably 2" per year) and some ice storms. Just the mention of snow on the news sends crowds to the store to buy milk and bread. Enjoy your fire - sounds lovely. Carol in TN

hahahah..... thanks Carol. That's for the people much further north! I used the snowblower yesterday for 1.5 hrs and got the driveway cleared out, and this morning DH boosted my car battery and now my car is running just fine. But wouldn't you know it, while shoveling the front steps I managed to shovel my right foot, and now I'm bruised and limping. Shall we call me a KLUTZ???

Snow in November on the Canadian prairies is par for the course. This is a bit later than normal, since we quite often get a permanent snowfall on Halloween. Ick. Even worse - it went down to -27° Celcius (-16°F) last night, and that was way too soon as far as I'm concerned. That's more like January weather. Brrrrrrrr.

Do you even get snow in TN???

Yesterday afternoon you could see a couple of snowflakes here and there, but nothing to get excited about. This morning though, after coming out of the hospital it was snowing (not heavy... very light tiny flakes)... enough of it to cover everything. Looking out the window now, onto the school parking lot, I see that *some* of it on the actual parking lot is starting to melt... although most of the cars will have to be brushed off before moving.

They say (I'm still trying to find out who "They" are, so I can *thank* them personally! LOL) it is supposed to continue for a couple of days.

I'm staying in the house where it's nice and warm. AND I am going to eat something very light when I do eat, so as not to upset my stomach again.
