Ice in Oklahoma

WE need your prays.

Oklahoma is now under a sever ice storm, and more rain/sleet keeps falling, our trees and power lines are coated with ice, all the power lines are above ground. poles are starting to fall. and sm. branches are starting to brake/fall on power lines. ( goodness they haven't fallen here yet) Yes, all of our power lines are above ground. our power has been going off and on, from time to time here. but think goodness comes back on.

We may be without power for days if not weeks. If we do loose the elect, please be aware we are in a very small town, and we are the 2nd from the last in line. meaning we will not have power until everyone else has it. AS they work from the power station, down the line.

so say a pray that the elect stays on.

we are living in a 100% elect home.. its going to be very cold, not to say all the water lines we will have busted, since ever our water pipes are staying warm with heat tape!

This is not over for us. Yesterday it was rain that turned to ICE, now today we are once again receiving rain/sleet. and I think we are under the gun again for tomorrow.. temps are to be at or below freezing until the middle of the week.

I will try to keep everyone update,

Safety prayers headed right your way, Christina! Go eat all the ice cream so it won't melt and be ruined.

Good luck, Christina. It seems as though many of you folk in the 'middle' of the country are having a worrying time. Do you have Thermos flasks to fill with hot water, to make hot drinks, in case your electricity goes off? Good luck to all of you.

Please do all let us know when it is over and you are safe again. . In message , Christina In ok writes

This sounds like our area 2 yrs. ago for Christmas Eve. We ended up in a motel for Christmas, due to no heat at home, and the cats were getting cold. When I got ready to pack them up for the move to the hotel, I found the Himalayan curled around the water heater. It's gas, so the pilot light was on giving a little warmth. I hope you don't have to go too long without power, Christina. Will leaving the water on at just a trickle prevent freezing? Dump antifreeze in the toilets to keep them from freezing and cracking. Thank you, Our Gov. declared a State of Emergency for all 77 counties in Oklahoma yesterday.

We are really lucky here so far (knock on wood) that the winds haven't picked up. even though our elect is flicking from time to time, we still have power.

Sad to say, I wasn't ready for this Ice Storm, since all reports for our area have been up in arms. We where first to only receive rain, then it would get cold, it wasn't until Friday by noon that the conditions got bad or maybe it was I just didn't think about it getting this bad here as we would have ice on the trees and elect lines. . I don't know what I was thinking. I do not have any flasks.

I have been though may ice storms one in 2000 elect was off for a few days.. then in 1997 which was off for 2 weeks. I can make things work and get the kids fed. I have already finished the laundry backed up my money file to a hard copy have phone numbers handy. dogs have water ( they are inside) so I have a 3 gal. water thing for them, at least for a week. games to play if the lights go off, but once lights out of and its night, we will go to bed. If I have to I will build a fire outside, ( not sure how I will do that, since everything is iced, but I can make it work, at least to heat up chill which I just finished making. I have water collecting outside to flush the potties here. so I can make due, I will be good for a week. I can grill at least once outside, then we will have to make our way to a town that has a store which I can buy charcoal, to cook dinner on outside. our water will last I hope a day from the city, after that, if elect is not back on, we will be out of water.

I am ready as I can be, other the I sure wished I bought candles or batteries.

anyone else in this mess, stay safe and warm!

I am sure since some already in are area are without power, all the rooms are filled up from here to Dallas by now LOL I have two inside dogs and one outside cat that has to be taken care of. My oldest dog of 9 years, lost his winter coat over the past month. he would freeze if left outside, ( he is an inside doggie, but just a big inside doggie) Australian Shepherd Mix, then my other one is 3 years old an Queenland bluehealer, and she is cold most of the time. and the poor cat, named scamper has to stay outside.. I have made her a warm house on our porch for him.. I do sure wish that my dogs and the cat could get along.. If I bought the cat inside our bluehealer would kill him. :(

Just to commiserate...I'm with you. Not sure which town you're in, but we are also in OK in a 100% electric home. Our power went out for 2 hours but it did come back on. On the bright side, so far, it doesn't seem as bad statewide as they intially predicted. What really stinks is, I was really wanting to go to the quilt show in OKC this weekend, especially to sit in on Eleanor Burns' lectures. I wonder if she even made it, or if the show was cancelled. I never did hear.

Dear Christina, Many people in my town were in the same situation. We only went without electricity (total electric -- nobody in town has gas unless they have propane and not many do) for 10 hours or so. Others were without for a week, just got it back last night as temps were falling to near 0 F. I will pray for you and send you warm thoughts. Wish I could share some of my wool blankets and good warm clothing. It's so hard. Please be careful if you use alternate heat/cooking sources that aren't intended for in the house use. So dangerous.

Please keep us posted. I pray for a quick end to the problems and for you to keep electricity and warmth in your home.

hugs, Sunny

Keeping my fingers crossed. We were supposed to get this last night in but somehow it seems to have missed us.

I can understand about the electricity. During the Nov. 30/Dec.1 storm a lot of people in this area, and this area isn't so very rural either, were without power for a week. We were looking that we get the city utilities, not Ameren, so we had our power back after about 18 hours.
