As mentioned to Bienchat - I think we "normal" people all know this. After all, we have our share of right-wing nuts here too.

And believe it or not, it can be warm in Canada.... especially in British Columbia. They very seldom get snow in Vancouver. My friend grows winter pansies outside....

In the summer on the prairies we get temps up into the 90's, it just doesn't stay all that warm in the winter time. We have been very fortunate this week as it has hovered around the freezing mark, and it's been very enjoyable. It's snowing today, no wind and just at 32°F. Can't complain.

Hey, Shelagh... who are you calling "normal"?!?!? LOL

Yeah, it's all BS. Most Americans are smart enough to know that Canadians aren't their "retarded cousins", and those who aren't smart enough to know it best be smart enough not to say it to our faces. We may be a "polite" and friendly bunch... but I think most of us would be ever so slightly p*ssed to be put down like that to our faces and not retaliate. I'm not even going to go there about a show that our own Rick Mercer (from Newfoundland) did asking Americans (some professors at HIGH QUALITY UNIVERSITIES too) questions about Canada and the answers he got (just loved the look on his face too).... let's just say I was falling off the sofa laughing my *ss off at some of the comments! "Congratulations Prime Minister Tim Horton!" HAHAHAHA

As for the ONE mad cow thing in the States.... uh huh... I have some swampland, if anyone would care to buy it! ;o)

And Noreen.... you have to be a hardy breed to live in the colder parts of Canada. Either that or invest in a MAJOR stock of long-johns! LOL

Oh, I just had to add to this part (I know that all of you on RCTY would know the answer to this, so it isn't directed at any of you)... I remember one thing that Rick Mercer was saying. He was telling "people on the streets" that Canada has just added another state to their country "would you care to congratulate them?"... and I swear *every* person he spoke to said "Congratulations Canada on adding another STATE to your country!"... except one young boy about 10 years old who was standing there with his parents. You could see the wheels going around in that child's mind and suddenly he said "HEY.... wait a minute.... Canada doesn't have STATES, they have PROVINCES!" His parents were totally embarrassed, and Rick Mercer just stood there grinning from ear to ear.... it took a child to come up with the right answer! LOL

I do know that most Americans are not oblivious to Canada and what she is all about (no I didn't say aboout (nor do I say "eh")... although my old keyboard used to add double o's when I would be chatting with friends, and I would get "aboout", "hoouse" & "moouse". I would laugh and say it was a Canadian keyboard. LOL)... but when I did have an IRC chat channel, I honestly did run into a few people (not just from the States) who knew very little about Canada. I actually had someone say to me one night that Canada doesn't have and doesn't need a Navy, because we don't have any water. LOL Excuuuuse me? We are surrrounded by water on three sides, and also have the Great Lakes, and my Dad was in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII.

Then of course you get people who assume that Canada is always cold (not you Noreen) and that it always has snow! For those people I had my standard reply ready.... "Yep, and I live in an igloo, drive a dog sled, and have a pet polar bear too!" LOL

GOOD answer, which I also used to use about Wisconsin USA, due to the 'FROZEN TUNDRA' football remarks.

Yes, I do know it's not always cold in all provinces, Gem... :D... and I'm just 'spoiled' now and like it WARM.

I was really amazed at a message posted in another newsgroup I read just before Christmas. She is in Arizona, and her water pipes froze overnight. In ARIZONA!!!! I honestly didn't think it got cold there at all... yes, cool in the evenings, but not cold enough to freeze water pipes.

It's actually been fairly mild (compared to what it's usually like at this time of year) here yesterday and again today. It is very overcast though, and looks like we could get more rain like we had yesterday. If this keeps up all the snow will be gone.... I am already seeing a LOT of grass all over the place. Well, if it stays like this until after January 6th (when we take down our tree and other decorations) Matthew may be able to get up and take the lights off the edge of the roof too. ;o)

Snowflake! ;op~~

Named after Casper's *supposedly* white teddy bear... I say supposedly because he WAS white when we first got him for Casper... but he is in dire need of a good washing now... looks very dark grey now from being dragged all over creation. LOL

Because the water lines are 'buried' as deeply... in Wisc. we had deep trenches, here in Tenn, I've seen water lines above the ground, or bareley a quarter inche below the surface, and we Do get below thirty-two degrees here, so they can and do freeze. I lived in AZ for three months, it was summer, but nights in the desert ARE chilly, and up northwards, near FlagStaff, it DOES snow....

I watched a movie a few months ago on TV about the *real* Winnie the Pooh. It was really neat... I should have popped a tape in and taped it, as I would love to have it to keep. :o)
