Memoirs of a first Lampworking class

Well Everyone, I finally did it. I went to my first lampworking class last Saturday and it was wonderful. I had a lot of fun. There were only two students (myself and one other) and our teacher, Mrs. Jackie Knabel.

was only about an hour away from me and she is a delightful lady. She and her husband go to alot of shows and she sells glass and other items. She also lampworks and sells her beads (adorable bunnies and eggs!) I was very happy with my class.

I made nine beads that day. I did the following:

1 plain bead, actually round! 1 bead making hearts by dragging circles (I sucked at the raking) 1 tube bead with feathering 1 tube bead with a stringer wrap that was made by twisting two colors together. 1 encased bead with frit 1 encased tube with silver foil 2 millifiori, only because the other lady had to start over so I did another real quick. hehe 1 gravity bead, which WAS gorgeous but cracked in shipping. I glued it together so at least people will see that I did do something right!

It was so much fun! I got the shield instead of glasses. I wore those glasses all day over mine and felt icky. So I went ahead and got the shield from Jackie and it ROCKS. My hubbie even made three beads that night when I got home. It was really sweet, he did a ladybug for our daughter (she's 3).

My husband and I agree, we HAVE to get a torch. The one we have just doesn't do it. So we're saving for a Nortel Minor. Then the kiln.

I have everything else, a bit of glass, mandrels, graphite paddle and some other sundry items. Safety equipment too! I really enjoyed myself.

Thank you all for encouraging me through the years. I'll try to get some pictures up for you all to see. The beads aren't much, but I'm pleased with how I did.

Happiness to all of you, Wendy remove the ferret to email me

Sounds like you had a good time. Now you have to get photos.

I'm glad to hear you like the shield. I always say once you use it you'll never want to wear those glasses again. I love mine!

That sounds wonderful and so much fun. I can't wait to see you develop as an artist and what wonderful things you can show us.
