new nickname

Hi, I've been getting such a lot of spam lately that I decided once again to try munging my email and nickname. I'm going to stick with it for a while and see if it helps.

If your email address is already "in the wild" the only thing that'll stop the spam is to abandon the email address. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do that. I have mailwasher and hoped that over time it would all die down. No, huh?

If you have blocked the spam you alreadyhave this will prevent more coming - worth a try.

You have changed the "E-mail" which show up as sender here, I assume this new mail-address is a falke, and no one will reach you at this address. If you do not open the spam mails to your OLD address,(the spam which your "mail-washer" don't stop), you will slowly get less. That is my experience, I did the same .

BUT, as Wooly says; The only thing that stop it effectively, is to abandon the old address.

(That is not always an easy thing to do, if many of your contacts use that adress, so I prefered to do like you.)

OBS: Be sure that only the HEADLINES show up when you get mails. If your mail-box is set to show the contence of the mail, the sender of spam "will get message" that it is opened, and you'll get more.

I am sure the English speaking here can explain this better than me, Wooly, you understand what I am trying to say! AUD ;-)

I understand perfectly Aud. That's what I use the mailwasher for. You are right, I can't change it right now, because of the position I have (DDGM) It would cause more troubles than I would want to have to deal with. So I'll try this first. I forgot about setting it up with only the headers - done. Thanks

Glad you understood what I meant, Norma! I sometimes feel I explain very clumsy in English, and think I need "help" ;) Aud ;-)

Norma, you should be able to block a lot of that spam with mailwasher. Do you use the mailwasher to preview your mail first? I do, then only d/l messages to my computer that I want to reply to. It's very easy to blacklist spammers. You can also set up filters. If you need any help, let me know.... I might be able to help you. ;>)
