Okay... I just read something very disturbing....

Taken from a page (above URL) about Canada increasing vigilance after London attacks:

"Canada is one of five countries listed by al Qaeda as possible targets. Thursday's co-ordinated bombing attacks were carried out by al Qaeda, according to a report. But that report has not been verified.

Canada and Italy are the only two countries on an al Qaeda hit list that have not yet been attacked. And while a terrorist threat may seem distant for many Canadians, the country's spy agency, CSIS, says there are at least

50 terrorist groups operating in the nation."

My question is.... If we *know* that there are at least 50 terrorist groups operating in the nation, why are we not getting after them and getting them the hell out of the country? :o/

My questions are - how is CSIS defining a 'group', and how well are CSIS cooperating with the Mounties these days when they have knowledge of criminal acts by members of said 'groups'?

I'm sure Canada is a terrorist target, although it probably isn't on the top of anyone's list of targets. And I'm sure a clever terrorist could get into the country and hook-up with some sympathizers, but I'm extremely dubious about any such long list of 'terrorist groups'. Half of names at least are probably there because the group in question is said by someone or other (maybe someone with an axe to grind) to be connected directly or indirectly to some other group which might actually be a terrorist group.

No clue!

My Dad said years ago that he knows of at least three places where if anyone attacked, almost half the province would go up. It's a pretty scarey thought. I'm just thankful we don't live near either of them.

Yes, that's true, Ranee! I know this in logic... but the thought of something that scarey possibly happening just makes one think irrationally at times. I know it isn't possible to actually round everyone up who they

*presume* to be a terrorist, because nine out of ten of them would likely be innocent of any such horrible thoughts or plans. *sigh* Too bad everyone doesn't just pick up knitting needles, crochet hooks, and yarn... and live in peace! What a perfect world it would be.... okay, maybe not perfect, but a whole heck of a lot quieter! :o)

I apologize! I guess I just thought that the "disturbing" part of the subject line would be obvious that it wasn't about yarn.

Some of the groups might be sleeping agents , and democratic countries can`t just knock on your door and through you out for a possible Suspected act. Some where in the grapevine, some names are dropped, some behaviour patterns observed, that raise suspicion or better caution,,, Remember the Terrorists who flew the 9/11 , they looked like your everyday neighbour . mirjam

Cheryll , if you haven`t realized this by now, i am sorry to break this to you ,,, There is a World war of cultures going on ,,,,, Terror against Democracy ,Not onlu Canada , but EVERY FREE country is a target ,, every Free person , free trade free tourism ... those are the are Targets to be Destroyed ,,,,,, Haven`t you listened to the Tape the ElQuaida people published after 9/11,,, that they will destroy every high building every Airoplane of the Western Crusaders And they meant it .... Terrorizing Tourism and transport , affects Economy the worst possible.

Or collect money from Naive people who think they donate to POOR HUNGRY people ,.,,,

In many Canada Universities there are a great group of So called Students , who spend more time inciting , than studying , in several incidents with Jewish Students , those So called Students lead the Verbal and smear attacks.

As many of this Actions hapen in a langugae , many Canadinas don`t understand ,,, it is not always Just an Axe to grind that motivates some people to blow trhe whistle....

The connections are wide , too wide .... Alas ,,, mirjam

This really isn't news. The same info came out shortly after the 911 bombings. :-(

And we are 'getting after them'.

I had heard of the *occasional* person here and there being questioned and watched... I just hadn't realized that there were actual groups (and especially so many) throughout Canada. Like I said in another post, I guess I am/was just always pretty naive in thinking that Canada is one of the safest places in the world. It likely stems from the fact that I grew up and still live in a small and very quiet and friendly town, where you can go walking in the wee hours of the morning and not have to worry that something could happen to you.

Before getting this Fibromyalgia I used to go for a walk in the summer after midnight almost every night. It is so quiet and peaceful then... and you can hear people off in the distance saying goodnight to visitors who are leaving for home... and cars and trucks on the highway outside of town. This is my little town, where I grew up and where I will one day die... and where I have always felt safe no matter what time of the day or night it is. This is why I don't think of my country as being unsafe either. Guess I was wrong... how sad! :o(

Excuse me, but how is it that going after any group whose known objectives are to kill people (among other things) is profiling? That is bullshit. If the people in some of these groups aren't even Canadian citizens, they should be jailed or deported. I sincerely hope CSIS and the RCMP are working to rid our country of such people, whomever they are, and whatever race/religion they are.

In the last year or so there was a library bombed in a Jewish school in Montreal with hate messages written all over the school walls. THAT is a hate crime, and AFAICR, there were some people arrested... I have no idea if they were jailed or not. That specific crime caused some high profile celebrity to donate money to the school so they could rebuild their library. I have no idea who that celeb was.

Yes Gem, it is sad, and it's why I have no argument with the government working to rid our country of the people who would try to bring it down.

I live in a rural area, and you would think we would have no problems with crime, but not so - we have houses broken into here - we have the "club" on our vehicles and lock the doors at night. I'd still rather live in Canada than anywhere else.
