Do you always trim off your bunny ears when you sew HSTs?

Yes, but only because I tend to cut the squares for the triangles a wee bit larger than necessary so that I can square up the whole thing. That trimming always gets the ears.

Like Julia I cut squares larger than needed and trim after sewing.

I do, not from any feeling that I must, but because it's so much easier to sew the HSTs to other things later on if the ears are trimmed.

(I assume you're talking about trimming AFTER sewing, not before.)

That's what I do too. I have never been successful at making them come out perfectly square using any other method, and this is the only way I can do it. It's great for accuracy, but sure plays havoc with those little ears!

Seeing your siggie reminded me of the "emergency kit" I saw a couple of days ago. It was a small white box, with a red first aid type cross on it, and the words EMERGENCY KIT in big letters. Contents -- chocolate. That's my kind of emergency kit! LOL

Oh yes, it's much too dangerous to try finding and lopping off bunny ears before sewing. Those bunnies can be mighty wiggly. Then everything is all out of sync.

I do. If they stay they just get in my way and make me crabby.

Usually. I'm always afraid they'll add bulk or show through the top.

Um, yes... and then I put them in a jar. It started from my cross stitching days when I filled a teddy jar with thread orts. It looks pretty and it reminds me of the projects I was working on by the colour of the threads. Now I have my quilting orts jar with triangle ears that reminds me of quilts.

Okay, so I'm strange. :-)

Yes, because I always make them a bit bigger and trim for accuracy. But I do confess that if I ever cut 2 accurate triangles and sewed them, I might just forget to chop the ears off! Roberta in D

This is a funny coincidence! I recently read a little mystery book that features a needlework shop. The shop owner bought and sold empty glass ornaments for Christmas trees .... with the suggestion/example of filling the globe with thread orts. IT would be a keepsake of projects. I happened to have a large, pretty jar, so put it on my sewing table and kept adding my thread orts, as well as wee bits of fabric. Mostly it has the white and gray thread I've been using, so is definitely not cool yet. maybe as I cut and size more wee HST I will add to the mix. In any case, it is forcing me to be tidier while sewing and cutting. That was a main incentive to do this. I doubt I'll keep it when full. Leigh, you are not strange. (Or maybe you are, and I am too?) Do NOT answer that!! ;)

Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. Depends on the quilt and my mood at the time.

I tried out a friends embellisher machine yesterday and all those little bits of thread and ears etc would be great to use on that. true recycling me thinks!!
