Many of my little snippety "ear" triangles are in a teeny woven basket in the sewing room of my dollhouse. They are perfect 3" or 4" HST's for the Little People.

OK, so what the heck is an "orts"??? Is that really a word? Several years ago I was trimming triangles for a quilt and realized that all the little ears were really pretty in the pile on my cutting mat, so I took them and put them in a little baby food jar. I've thought about adding to it with trimmings from subsequent quilts but can't stand the idea of mixing in colors that just "don't go". I quickly realized that I couldn't collect jars of ears from every quilt so now the ears go into the scrap bag for pillow stuffing.

Guess I'm strange too :)

I love that idea. I put them in a little goldfish bowl, and after it's full I just toss them and start over. Same principle (principal? I can never remember). It makes a pretty spot of lively color, a pleasure to look at, unless I am doing something drab with Thimbleberries or the like. Then I toss the ears right away into the wastebasket.

No. I don't. I usually don't have enough time to trim bunny ears.

Yep, 'ort' sure is a word. It means scrap or bit. In this case, it's the leftover bits of thread or fabric after trimming. I thought it might be an acronym when I first heard of it too, but it's just a word.

It's principle. The other one is a person - easily remembered because "The princiPAL is my PAL." There, you'll never get it wrong again now. :-)

That is such a fantastic idea! I love it.

Ooh, would that be one by Monica Ferris? I have three of those novels. They were quite fun to mix mystery and needlework.

I think I've made a couple of those ornaments too, just with plastic containers. Can't say I really liked them though. The jar idea is better for me.

Yes, I always do. (Also want to note, I am glad to hear them called "Bunny Ears". That's cute. The quilting teacher I had called them "teats", which I thought sounded kinda coarse. :-)

Leigh: I can't remember the author's name, and I only gave the books away a few days ago! The place is the Mid West USA, Minnesota I think. The shop owner was a widow who dies and leaves the store to her sister. Is the Ferris book you read?

Not Leigh but that is the series she was mentioning. The shop owner is Betsy Davenport.
