Just a note of greetings on Boxing Day. Anybody knitting, crocheting, spinning or weaving today? Noreen

who feels stupid... wondering if the USPS is open today or taking a day-late holiday for Christmas.....

Hi, Pirjo! I've got a baby blanket/afghan going on HairPin Lace (crochet) and two pairs of clogs (knit) to be felted. I'm also winding hanks of yarn for my NYCO project! Hugs, Noreen

Everything is closed here. I am hoping to knit later. I slept late, and just now (11:30 my time) got out of a long soak in the tub. My ham is simmering, and I will trim and glaze it later. I love holidays! Especially when stores are closed, too.

Just got up (7:44 am here) as the boys are gone and the house is quiet. We had a nice Christmas. Missed the grandkids but I understand why they couldn't make the trip this year with my SIL still healing from surgery.

I won't have to cook today as there are plenty of yummy leftovers. We cooked a big ham last night knowing we would only make a dent in it. I just stuck it in the refrigerator after dinner but today I will cut it up and freeze packets the right size for two and then make soup from the bone.

I did send cookies etc home with the boys - didn't want too many sweets left here.

I worked last night on DH's gloves. They are almost done but I had put them aside while I worked on Christmas presents. I will also get back to sewing up my NYCO from last year. I just have to put in the last sleeve. It is a warm sweater which will feel good this time of year.

Hi! I have not been officially gone...but I just have been super hyper ultra busy. So that is why you have not seen me much around.

I have wondered that higz - thing too. Nice to know that it is nothing...bad, or something. I know this sounds crazy but that is how it is. Best: Pirjo

Hi Noreen,

In answer to your question, the USPS and banks are closed today and next Monday too. That means two trips this week, did the grocery shopping and after Xmas sales shopping this morning. Now, getting ready to go out for dinner.

Hugs,

Nora

X-No-Archive:yes

Today started with a thunderstorm here in CT and it's been dreary, cloudy and drizzly (?) all day. Don't feel like doing much of anything except reading and crosswords. Finished my first Project Linus afghan yesterday (ripple, Red Heart multicolor starbright). Looks like a Matisse painting. Need to knit a couple of matching caps. Already have the yarn for the next one - Red Heart Baby Print. No errands today, but tomorrow - bank, post office and Michael's. I once spent a Christmas Holiday - including Boxing Day - in Bermuda. It was a lovely experience.

Hi Cher and others! At first I must confess. When I read that higz - thing, I thought: "That must be a typo or something." Well, little did I know about that. But no panic, no offense. I mean...I have no bad feelings for you. Not at all. All I want is to knit knit knit knit knit and knit one more row.

The busy in my life...oh it won't go away just like that. It keeps staying there. I just have to live with it. Oh well. May the time show what happens next. All I know is I am going back to Aspenwater town in January. When it is the 9th day of that particular month, my education in Aspenwater goes on again. *sigh* Best: Pirjo

Hi Cher and others!

My current active WIP is a vest. Originally it was a sweater, but I left the sleeves away when I rewrote the pattern for myself. Why? Because there were no decreases for arms. Or something like that. You all must know that there are some patterns in which there are first the rib, then the stockinette, then the arm decreases and then the head decrease...or something like that. In this pattern there were no arm decreases. I know you understand my poor English. I may not use proper terms, but I still believe you know what I mean.

Anyway, there are patterns in which there are no decreases for arms at all. There is the rib part, the stockinette part and the decrease for head. But no for arms. So if there are no decreases for arms, I will leave the sleeves out of the picture, and the finished thing will be a vest. Best: Pirjo

Yes we understand you Pirjo, and if we get stuck with anything we can always ask again.

No decreasing for the sleeves, would appear to me that the pattern is for a Drop Sleeve Sweater, here is a pic of one

formatting link
to the second picture and click on it, see how the seam or sewing up bit is over the shoulder, but it also looks good without sleeves so I know this will come out alright Pirjo. If you do decide to do the sleeves then you wouldn't make them as long as ordinary sleeves because they haven't so far to go to be sewn in. Anyway keep us posted on how it turns out, sounds pretty.

Hi everyone! Thanks Cher...I knew someone would know the point I am making. My assistant in other time zone just can not put the sleeves into a sweater without decreasings....so I just knit a vest. I know my assistant knows how to put the vest together so the future owner-to-be can wear it. I knitted some more cm's to the back last night. Must knit 52 cm before the decreasing part...but that is easy part too...and then I must knit at least 10 more rows with shoulders...and that is it. I mean after that one simple decrease the thing is practically done. I know...sounds crazy or strange..but that is what the pattern says.

Btw...I am gonna take a new challenge. I am gonna try a slipover...or something like that. It reminds a vest, but it is knitted *sideways*. It means from arm to arm or cuff to cuff. There are no sleeves in picture though. Let's hope it works. Re-writing the pattern is harder than I expected...but if I start it and knit a bit, even those problem spots may open to me. Best: Pirjo

Hi Cher! Honestly spoken I did not know that someone else in another time zone should go back to school on that very same day...but I hope all the best to him. Best: Pirjo
