They used to send me several roses a year that were not on the market yet and I would send back what I thought about them compared to other hybrid teas. Some times I had over a dozen I was judging.

Whatever is the fresh flower in my hand or in the vase or is blooming in its pot on the breakfast table right now!

How can I choose between the bright tulips of spring and the yarrow bravely blooming through the heat of the summer?

How can I compare Bearded Iris strutting like floozies, with the dainty Johnny Jumpups? How can I compare sweet honeysuckle with sweet jasmine? And dogwood! What compares to dogwood glowing white in the gloom of the spring rains? Is that better than the blanket of pink that the nectarines show with the snows still on Mt Diablo in the distance?

What is blooming here, right now? There is Arabian jasmine and a moth orchid on the breakfast table. The orchard is surrounded by English, French, and Spanish lavender- all blooming in profusion. Five different Fuchsia are blooming under the blooming Chinese lanterns. The Chinese lanterns and the red, blue and yellow Salvia's feed the humming birds through the summer. Beds are separated by walls of Gladiolas. A couple of kinds of jasmine are blooming outside. The coreopsis is replacing the yellows and golds of the calendula. And the four o'clocks are just starting. The sweet alyssum is still going strong and there are some columbines, yarrow, and baby's breath along the walk to my office. The nicotinas, oriental poppies, and cannas are blooming. Oh, and do not forget the carnations! If I walked around, I could find other things that are blooming in the yard but, those are my favorite flowers for the end of June, 2006. Most of the moth orchids that I have in bloom right now are at my wife's office - but I would not have bothered to bloom them if I did not like them too.

I planted many, many more, but the gophers came, and today I do not speak of the dead. LOL

I don't know that one, or any others...I only know Sonia roses because that's what I had in my wedding bouquet...the one and only time I've ever had them...

I *know*! That's probably why we had .... disturbances earlier, too much alike, but now that we've found all these similiarities, we get along just FINE! I've a feeling that there's probably a lot more, too ;) :D Noreen
