OT Tuseday

Today is memorial day for the Holocaust victims. The day we also pray it will never ever happen again. In the middle of watching the Central Ceremony in `Yad Vashem` , a newsflash came up to tell that aterror act has happened in Dahab in Sinai. And several Tourists and Egyptians were killed and many more wounded. And the Iranian prime minister promises to anihilate us again ,,, I won`t go to any official ceremony today, i intend to go on working on my book. This is my way to honor the memory. But my radio is open and i hear stories , yesternight as many photos were shown i saw a photo i have as well ,,, thus i will try and contact the place to see where they got it from. Mine has no date , nore name on it, But it was amongst the photos my mother kept hidden in the closet, tied up in a headscarf . mirjam

When I had the opportunity to visit Jerusalem last year my husband and I went to Yad Vashem. It was an extremely moving experience and I think one that is almost an obligation for visitors to Israel. I can only imagine how shocking it would be to have the broadcast of that ceremony interrupted by an act of terror - sadly, that may have been the terrorists intention.

Yes I have. It was shown on TV here .....last year, if I recall correctly. I think it was interesting in two ways - the story itself and as an illustration of how small, seemingly insignificant, items can give insight into history.

When I was about 18 years old I was in the city of York, in the UK. We came upon an excavation of the Viking part of the city. I think it was probably a midden - not very glamorous! They had taken out a pile of oyster shells and it was a very strange experience to hold one and realise the person who ate the contents has perished so long ago. A simple thing, but very moving.

I can see how people can become so fascinated with the past and the attempt to put the jigsaw together.

Eimear speaking about Digging the past ,,, it is a national thing here, Where ever they dig for building ,the law says that if they find Antiques they have to call authorities , who than come to make a survey and many time new buildings have to wait .. I saw the bag from Massada that was hand embroiderd , and had in a woman`d braid , and some Cosmetics ,, over 2000 years old....[from the Roman Siege ] .

As to the film , it was made with great sensitivity, and not too Mooshy. The facts being dramatic enough , no need to add to them. mirjam

I've never seen the movie, Mirjam. But after reading what you and Eimear have said about it, I will have to keep my eyes open for the next time it comes on TV so I can watch it.

Peace! Gemini
