Hi Mirjam: This new computer set up is different I still haven't figured everything out yet........The new potholders were a sort of
*take along* project for me. My younger son is having his wisdom teeth out, not all at the same time, so I've had plenty of time in the dentists office to work on them. The old ones I had held up really well so I did the same type of crochet on the new ones. My mom had some hot pads that were sewn and also some really different ones that were made out of the metal tops of the old soda bottles. She took a fine cotton crochet thread and started by crocheting a small round in single crochet in a circle til it was larger around than the bottle top (or bottle cap). Then she placed the soda bottle cap on top of the crocheted circle and gathered the stitches closed so that the top was completely encased with the crochet. When she had a number of these, say 40 or 50, depending on how large she wanted the finished size of the hot pad- she would join all of them together usually in a circular or octogonal shape. I think my dad still has one or two of these at home. It was an interesting example of how everything was recycled and used, nothing went to waste. And some of those hot pads have held up for over 50 years! They did a good job too. Marie and the cats - feeling better, thank you.- posted
