Eimear explain please, els who is scratching her head. What does Bytown stand for, (ok other than Ottawa, LOL) I understand the meaning of Byways, Bytown is a suburb...??

If you ever go to Norway, remember that "by" is not pronounced the same way in Norwegian as it is in English.

As someone mentioned, and I remember hearing somewhere before, the city was named after Colonel By.

The ByWard Market is in the city centre, the older part of town. It has a few streets with restaurants and different kinds of shops as well as proper market shops
