request for a pattern

One of our guildmembers is looking for a pattern of an old fashioned little scarf. It is maybe 5 to 6 inches wide, and about 30 inches long. One end had a slit in it and after you put this ccarf around you neck you pull the two ends through this slit. OK while I am typing this, I realize that that is not possible to do, the scarf must be twice as long and you wrap it double around your neck and both ends go through this slit in the other side. Still does not make any sense to me. I can remember seeing them. Maybe it is just one end that goes through the slit in the other end.

Thanks guys

Els (Muddled as always...LOL)

The ones I've seen have the slit in the middle or so, I think. Then one end goes through. No?

Is it the one shown on there that looks sort of smaller near the ends and then fans out to the regular size again? Those are cute. Also, is the pattern (and/or the one you were looking for) on a website somewhere?

Is that the Ascot scarf you mentioned earlier? Is it the same design as the neck mitten? I'd love to find a pattern for that!

That's how the neck mitten works, too. The one I remember was symmetrical so you could tuck either end through the other.

I've done this one too, it is lovely and comfy to wear, no wind can unwrap it from around your neck either, We call it the buttonhole or cravat scarf over here, not that I knew of it til I found Katherines patterm, which is better than the one I'd previously done, because the button hole or slit bit, is ribbed, and thus holds firmly..

Many thanks Katherine.........Cher x

Yes! That looks exactly like the one "Aunt" Aga made for Ginny! Thanks Katherine!

I thank you too, Katherine. That is very pretty and looks fairly easy to follow. Will forwarding the link to myself be good enough (will it stay up for a while), or should I copy and save the pattern without the picture?

Hi Helen,

That's the same red one that I had too. Amazing how these old patterns keep coming around.
