Hi Everyone,
Since I haven't made a shawl before and now have done two, I need some help. I would like to have one that comes around the front more, not a retangle, but a pointed one. I've crocheted the one on the Lion Brand website with the Homespun yarn and for someone in a nursing home I'd like more in the front, but don't know how to do that. Can anyone give me some ideas?

If you want a triangle with long "wings" try this:
Cast on 7
On every right side row: kfb in the first stitch, knit to the center stitch, yo, k1 (the center stitch), yo, kit to end, kfb in the last stitch
On every wrong-side row: knit all
Bind off when the thing is long enough from the center cast-on to the point of the triangle. By then it'll have a wingspan adequate for crossing in front and tying in back.

Why don't you try a Faroese Shawl? It's a little more "fitted" than a triangular or rectangular shawl and was designed for its practicality for being able to stay in one place while cooking and baking, etc.
I know you're a pretty advanced knitter, so here is a link for "blueprints" of how one is assembled:

In Book 220 - "All Shawls" by Bernat, There is a fitted circular shawl Style No. 2349-220 that overlaps in the front. It makes up beautifully and (my wife tells me) is quite warm.
