Snoods/Hair nets

Mar 09, 2007 9 Replies

I am trying to find a free pattern for either a snood or hair net. Based during the civil war era. I was told I would be able to find at least one free pattern online, but so far I have not been able to find one. If someone could help me with this I would be very greatful.

Thanks, Donna

I think the Big Hairnet looks very similar to those worn in USA during the civil war , mirjam

I have 2 patterns for hairnets i think one of them suits your `period` ,i will email them in amoment ,,, mirjam

I have a snood pattern from the 1940s somewhere - would this do or do you want a genuine civil war pattern?

I have a crochet pattern for a "vintage snood". I would think it is probably fortish. If you think this will do I will email to you.

Who is alive today to say that a crochet snood pattern from the 1940's is NOT the same as one from the 1860's?

Nobody and i know that my BIG hair net looks like those that the dressers of `Gone with The wind `Made for the ladies ,,,,, if you look carefull , through magnifying glass at old drawings of the time , you might see it looks very similar ,,,,,, mirjam

Well absolutely. I only collect 20th century patterns but I certainly see the same patterns "recycled" between the 1940s and the 1960s (particularly objects like gloves and socks). That said I know nothing about Civil war period clothing so I wasn't going to presume a similarity. :)

Spampot i have thought about this problem ,,, why not go to a Historical museum, and ask for DRAWINGS OF that period , i am sure there will some lady with a snood ,,, you might photograph ,, than go home and enlarge it to look at , Also there might be a Costumes department with A Snood etc... mirjam
