Sock done!

I just finished it and put a couple pictures in my album. Now it's time to find a pattern that is a bit smaller - this one is fine in length but way too big around. That's okay - I did it!

Make the second sock and stash the pair for Christmas gifting.

The easiest way to resize a sock pattern is to go down in needle size. If that won't produce a small-enough sock reduce the stitch count by a multiple of four based on your gauge, and make the heel on half the stitches.

Thanks! I used Lion Brand's pattern for their Magic Stripes yarn - 56 stitches on size 3 needles. I have to wait for some more sock yarn to arrive in the mail (yarn fairy, y'know!) and then I'll try some adjustments.

Thanks, Wooly!

I thought about going down to size 2 needles and keeping the same number of stitches (56), but this morning I found a pattern with a 48 stitch cast on, which might be about right. That would also be confirmed by your advice because it is a reduction of 8 stitches from the original. Since I started with such a simple pattern (ribbing, stockinette, turn heel, stockinette, finish toe), I think I can make the adjustment. I'm normally just a follow-the-pattern type of gal!

Great Joy,

It is a joy :) to look at your socks when they are finished. Let us know when you get the second pair finished.

It is fun to do the "after thought heel" > I just finished it and put a couple pictures in my album. Now it's

Hello Joy, well I only use 50stitches for my socks, but I don't use a pattern I sort of know it off by heart if you see what I mean...

Well lets hope the yarn fairy is good to you over the next few days...do have fun...the more you do the better it'll get and you'll be designing your own before too long.

Hi Joy,

The sock is lovely and so aren't the other items in your album. Oh, I hope the yarn fairy arrives soon too.

Hugs,

Cool Socks, Warm Feet by Lucy Neatby is an excellent book of sock patterns. It doesn't have very many patterns but each is written for a wide range of stitch gauges and foot sizes.
