The Sock Saga Continues

Well, I've made some definite progress. My elbow is improving, and I am able to knit with a support brace. I worked for a while with the sock looms I purchased and didn't like the results, but I think I learned some things, so I've been playing around with techniques, numbers, etc. the past couple days.

I just finished a sock with a short-row heel (no picking up stitches) which turned out acceptably for a first attempt. It is way too small for me, but would fit an elementary-aged girl, I think. This now leaves me with three, yes three, mateless socks that will all work for gifts someday when they are properly mated, since none of them actually fit me!

I do have hope for a pair of sock that I can wear - I just purchased the book "Sensational Knitted Socks" by Charlene Schurch, and it has some amazing charts for different foot measurements; number of stitches; types of needles; techniques for cuffs, legs, heels, and toes; basically a do-it-yourself mix and match guide.

Getting there is half the fun, right? Joy

I finished a pair of socks last night. The secret may be to find a pattern that fits you and stick with it. I was lucky that the woman who did the pattern I use must have feet exactly like mine - so the yarn differs but the socks are otherwise the same. Now to find one that fits my DH with his feet that are only a little longer than mine but wider.

(My glove pattern fits him fine, however, without many changes even though his fingers are a little thicker (and stronger).

Youbetcha! That's what I have, and I use many different colours of yarn, but the same pattern.

Joy,

I have that book. It gives you the info to knit socks from measurements you take with any yarn.

Good luck,

Hugs & God bless, Dennis & Gail
